Is there really an advantage to that front suspension, or is it just for the sake of doing it differently? That's a lot of $ to pay to get rid of the forks.

Hub center steering bikes don't suffer from fork dive and aren't as heavy as the BMW Telelever/duolever.
Bimota's motorcycles are expensive--not just the Tesi series with the HCS front end. There are other bikes that use it, too, from the $95,000+ Vyrus motorcycles To the much more reasonably priced and practical commuting of scooters: And the more mainstream Sport Touring market: And of course the cutting edge MotoGP bikes: Like any other suspension approach, like Suzuki's attempts to make Rotary Damper suspension mainstreem, it can be done cheaply or expensively, and neither implies that it is or isn't better than the more common method. Here's a good read by James Parker: http://www.ultimatemotorcycling.com/...cle-suspension

Also, just so there's no confusion: the V-rex sort of looks like a HCS design, but it's not. It's actually a universal joint front end (Yes, the same thing you use on a ratchet, and no, it doesn't have any advantages).

Yamaha GTS1000
A high tech bike for its time, except for the rear end. A standard swing-arm and chain drive, oh well.
