I was talking some more with the guys who visited them today, it wasn't a hit and run the lady who hit him did stop and the police have his gopro and are currently investigating it.

As for insurance goes I don't know how much he has or what he has all I know is he has a bare minimum of liability thats what the state of AL requires, he did love that bike a lot and the amount of work he has done on it he may have more coverage.

I'm still not sure exactly where he was hit or how and don't know if anyone was with him when it happened.

if he had "full" coverage he most likely had an uninsured motorist clause.

some companies combine the uninsured bodily injury and bodily injury payouts in cases such as this.

just depends on their chances of getting sued, and the amount insured with ethioknight.

If this had been a hit and run Alex would be financially screwed, so I'm very glad it was not.

Everyone please go raise your liability to 100k and add uninsured/underinsured at a minimum of 100k as well. It's times like this that saving an extra $100/year is not worth it.

i was going to post this exact thing...

liability policies under $100k are a joke.
i come across cars and trucks over that amount every day...
most commercial vehicles are easily $150-200k.

bodily injury under $100k isn't realistic as well.
you should get insurance for 10x your annual salary.

if you can't afford afford adequate insurance, riders should save until they do.

Please keep your prayers/wishes/thoughts strong. Alex is going to have a big morning tomorrow. Due to the extent of his brain injury, the doctors may have to make his body more comfortable during his recovery period. They proposed a tracheotomy to reduce stress on the lungs and infection. Also, an abdominal feeding tube vs his current nasal tube. Both common procedures. It all depends on if his body can produce more voluntary movement when they pull off sedation.

However, there is some good news. He does have movement in all extremities and no spinal damage has been noted. He is still breathing on his own. Aside from the procedures above, there has not been a mention of any invasive procedure needed for the head injury.

On the note of the driver, she has been identified. The family will be able to speak to the detective in the morning. Hopefully, there will be something helpful on the GoPro. I was informed today he was not wearing the helmet cam. So, I dont know how much of a view it may have had.

Just please keep Alex in your hearts and thoughts.

So did the driver leave the scene or not? If she didn't is she now denying fault?

Sorry, I was initially told it was a hit and run. It now seems that the officer on the scene did make an identification that night. However, I dont know if she is denying fault or not. His sister was distraught tonight that the driver is still free to do as she pleases. I'll know more regarding the accident tomorrow.

That is excellent news. Complete movement with no spinal injuries and no invasive treatments is great. Trach and feeding tube are possible which sucks but that would only be temporary.

As bad as it sounds I'm glad he's stable and getting better now. So the doctors are confident he doesn't have a TBI? I'm really hoping the best for him. How ****ing hard did this bitch hit him from behind to break that much of his skull wearing a full face helmet. She should pay considerably for this.

It just shows the severity of the impact... I'm glad he had his helmet on, though I doubt he ever rides without it. Will keep him in my thoughts and prayers till he recovers.

I just recently bought my Ninjette and joined this site. His post about his roommate dropping his bike was the 1st thread I read. I got a good laugh at the post and the responses and that's why I joined this site. I'll be hoping for the best and will definitely contribute when something is set up

And a personal injury lawyer will not get him more if the insurance bills already exceed the amount of the policy, which in all likelihood they do (for example my broken leg and a 100k policy). The lawyer would work on contingency and would take 30-40% of the claim which in a case like this is a massive waste of money. It would be more beneficial in a case like this to seek a lawyers help and pay them based on their hourly rate
Just because you had an experience with a bad lawyer doesn't mean you know everything.... My ex and I got side swiped by a driver years back and the coverage of his insurance ended with our hospitol bills and my personal injury lawyer sued the driver and won. We got a payout higher then what we would've gotten without the lawyer.....

Edit: I didn't read it was a hit and run tho. So Hopefully they find the driver!

Hiring the lawyer after you get the insurance payout is a better idea. Other wise you throw him 30% of your settlement for 2 hours of work
