engine swap
I want to start off and just say I'm new here so hello everyone. I just bought a 2007 250 that the guy managed to run low on oil. The engine started tapping one day so he said he took it straight home and parked it. After letting it sit formonths without starting it won't start.It does turn over though. I'm hoping some fresh oil and cleaning the carbs will do the trick, along with adjusting the valves. Question is if I have to replace the motor will a 08 and up motor bolt in? I really cannot wait to fix this bike and be riding.

Welcome Tim!
If the previous owner ran it low on oil then . An 08+ engine is not a direct bolt in. There are some minor differences here and there. Nothing that can't be overcame if you can make a few brackets and such though.

Welcome, You may get lucky and she may start after the work you described. There is always the option of fixing the motor you have if it does not start. You can hone out the cylinder then install new pistons (great time to increase CCs if that is your thing) and the parts are not that expensive. You can usually find pre gen (before 07) motors for around $300 if you do some searching.
I would tear it apart and inspect the cams, lifters and cyl walls for wear/damage and if there is none then the bottom end may be ok. Then you can adjust the valves, button her up and see what happens. What ever you choose GOOD luck and don't forget to post some pics and post what you do so others can learn. |

you have to replace the front mounts with the newgen front mounts if you want to put the newgen motor in.

im looking to do the same thing and already know about the mounts my question is what else do i need will it work with everything else Carbs, Ignition system, etc Is there anything besides exhaust and front mounts
