That's a gorgeous looking pre-gen. I'd just try selling it at that price and see how it goes. 1400 is very low mileage!

At this time of the season in NJ, it'll be hard to get $2000 honestly. My friends have been trying to selling their pregens since September for about $2000 but no luck here in north jersey, but than again their bikes had a little more miles and not as good looking. I would lower it to $2000-$2200 because of how clean it looks and the low miles. But if you can wait, sell it in the beginning of next riding season, when new riders are looking for their first bike. Anyway, good luck!

Is low mileage on an older bike necessarily a good thing? (I'm actually asking, it's something I've always wondered)

thanks! Definitely new to all this but I know I definitely want to start riding, I'm already signed up for the class at the end of March. I've done a lot of reading and determined a 250R is probably the best beginner bike. I'm very petite which makes me a little nervous about being able to handle the bike but I'm optimistic!

Hi Meg. Welcome to the forum

There's plenty of shorties in here that handle the ninjette just fine. It's a light motorcycle which helps a bit. You can also have it lowered a bit. Some of the women in here wear motorcycle boots with a thick sole or a bit heel, to help them get their feet flat on the ground when the bike stops.

The old style ninja 250, like the one advertised in this post (we call it a pre-gen) is a good bike to start on. If you drop it at slow speed (which isn't the end of the world!) it's not so expensive and soul destroying as dropping the newer 250R (aka the new-gen) or dropping the even newer Ninja 300. At higher speeds (above 10mph) your short height wont give you any disadvantage.

If you do decide to go for a new ninjette, I'd strongly recommend the Ninja 300 with ABS. The ABS is a really useful safety feature for new riders that you can't get for a Ninja 250R.

Meg

Being short doesn't stop you on this bike. I learned to use the balls of my feet vs being flatfooted on both sides when I started riding. Plus, as @akima mentioned, there are ways of lowering the bike if it is just outside your reach. Custom seats help there too.
