my girl won't start :(

She tries to turn over but after a few tries she just wont go anymore. The gauge cluster will dim even more. Tried jumping it with my car turned off(and partially turned on where my car radio is on) and results remain the same. The weather here in WI has been somewhat cold, but i just started it this past sunday so i dont know why it wouldn't start. She's a 2012

Time to charge the battery. Get a battery tender too. Hopefully it's as simple as that.

Does she have plenty of gas in the tank, Eric?

If so, is the vacuum tube properly connected to the petcock?

If so, use full choke for cranking and don't twist the throttle handle.

If no go, close the choke and crack open the throttle handle (~1/8) while cranking.

In any event, save your battery from the hard work, keep cranking using the car's battery (never start the car while jumping cabling).

If the bike's battery has been working hard, give it a slow charge (less than 1 amp) for a whole day.

Battery Tender Question

I suspect it's a battery issue -- time for a new one?

I have a similar question except I don't know how to hook up my trickle charger -- I have tried searching online and seem to see some hooks that I don't have.

Can someone please tell me how to hook this up? Not sure how I would attach the clips...

set it to 2 amp, hook up the red one to the red one, then hook up the black one to the black one. then turn it on

just clamp the clamps to the terminals

So just put the clamps on the metal screws on the battery? Seems like it'll be a tight fit. That's safe, right?

The videos I have seen usually have people using some sort of hoops.

It's a subtle message from your bike to put it in hibernation for the season!

No but seriously - you've still been riding in this weather? You are crazy! I put my bike up like 3 weeks ago.

There are many types of chargers, tenders and the like. Just pop em on the screws and it will be fine and safe.

Ya hey!

Definitely charge the battery fully before moving on. A fully charged 12V battery should read 12.7-8V. It should hold 12V while cranking.

How old is the gas? With temps here, summer-blend gas is going to give you problems at this point. Get some fresh 87 without Ethanol (Cenex in the Madison area). Drain the tank and floatbowls before filling with fresh 87 and a stabilizer (Stabil or Seafoam).

It may take some cranking to get the petcock to flow gas (create vacuum), so you'll need a strong battery.

Cold temps make you run lean, so if you haven't adjusted the idle mixture you'll probably be lean. Ethanol is gas makes it lean also. If you can, richen your idle mixture to 2 3/4 or 3 turns out and run Ethanol-free before trying again.
