Question Do you wave to Motorcyclist in your CAR?

Do you wave at motorcyclist in your Car? It was a beautiful weekend in Dallas Tx with many motorcyclist out. My wife and I were heading to my parents house and we got to thinking...How would motorcyclist react if we started waving in our car. We naturally do the motorcycle wave when we are on our bike. So, we rolled down the windows and waved at every motorcyclist that we passed by. So we started to experiment:

- 7/8 motorcyclist waved back
- out of the 7 motorcyclist that waved, 4 hesitated with a questioning stare

Now we only did this when it was safe and didn't hender the motorcyclist or my attention to the road. But, I was surprised at how many actually waved back.

I have cought myself wanting to wave but then stiped myself. I know that if I was on my bike and a car waved at me I would think to myself "Do I know them or do they know me?" Bikers waving to other bikers feels natural because although you may not know them you wave because they are fellow bikers.

Same here... I don't wave to motorcyclists when I'm on a bike unless they wave first.

I've caught myself and stopped several times whenI realize that I'm just going to confuse the biker, but if I'm wearing my riding jacket (it happens!) or a glove (that too), I go ahead and let it happen.

I've been experimenting on this

For the last couple months, on and off...maybe twenty wave from the car.

I haven't gotten a wave back yet...oh well...

A kooky girl I use to hang out with would wave at everbody...and say

"Who's the friendliest???" when they didn't wave back she'd say..

"We are!!"

While on the motorcycle, it's expected that you wave to other riders in South Florida. In the car, not so much.

back in the fun days of the Miata and snowstorms, i was out playing in the freshly laid powder of the 6th hour of a good nor'easter. tootlin around town saw my buddy on the sidewalk, and having a first-gen with flipups, proceeded to scandi-flick/e-brake it, countersteer, and blip my headlights up for the miata-wink while doing 30 sideways in the snow facing him...
Great success!
Also for the record, miatas have our winks, and sportbikes do the wave. It takes ALOT for me to get a wave out of a hog though...

Waving from the CAGE

I've gotten into the habit of waving to riders while in my cage. I've gotten a few waves back lol.

Anyone else do this?

I haven't, surprisingly. My cage is an old school Landcruiser (safarilicious!). Landcruisers have a secret wave, too. But I've never waved at a bike from the Landcruiser.

However, now that I think about it, Ium gunna start waving at Landcruisers from my bike!

I've done it a couple times but never got a response from the riders. Iguess they didn't see me or chose to ignore me. Haha. I have also waved at random cars while riding my bike to see if I can get a response out of cagers, I have had better luck with that.

I don't. I might be a rider but at that time, I'm in a cage so really doesn't make sense to me. I probably wouldn't wave back if I had it done to me.

The "Thumbs Up" motorcycle wave

Hey guys was thinking about something and wanted your opinion...

Most of us have seen, know of, or given that thumbs up signal motorcyclists give each other as they pass. A sign of camaraderie and all that.

Has anyone ever gave or been given this sign from a car though? I saw someone on a ninja 250 the other day and got excited and wanted to give them the thumbs up, so I rolled down the window and gave it to em, and either the person didn't see, was unable to free a hand to wave back, or simply though I was a stupid poser doing it from my car, as they did not signal back.

Anyone think that it's dumb for you to thumbs up a motorcyclist from your car when you yourself aren't riding at the moment?

Interested to hear everyone's opinions.

When driving my wife's car, all I do for motorcyclists is protecting them from being tail-gated or rear ended by other cars.

When riding, I wave to all sport riders, but only 1/3 of them wave back.
Maybe they don't see me, don't know how to wave or simply don't care.

According to this article it is "supposed to be" mainly used by the harley and cruiser community. What I had in my head when I posted this is what the guy on the left is doing in the pic at the top. The hand extended down with fingers out. I called it thumbs up though lol.

I suppose I should stop waving my arm around out the window when I see fellow 250 riders then lol. Just anxious to do anything that has to do with a motorcycle at this point since I got the bike in November and wont have my full license until april. I'm itching to get out there.
