Various Maintenance questions

Hey guys,
I never took my bike in to do the 3000 mile maintenance. It's at 4000 miles now. I'd like to do some of the work myself so I can learn more about the bike and save some money.

I was looking at this for the spark plug maintenance: http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Changin...rands_to_avoid

1. Do I need to first remove the existing spark plugs to determine if they actually need to be replaced or should I replace them regardless? I don't really know what I should be looking for in bad spark plug so I was figuring on just replacing them.

2. Do the listed model #s for those plugs apply to new-gens as well?

3. I think my handlebars may be misaligned slightly and I'm not sure if it's just me. Is there a way to check for sure if the handlebars are misaligned?

4. Does anyone happen to know the threading/length for the screws that hold that cone shaped muffler shield thing on? I lost my top one and I'd rather not take apart my bike in the home depot parking lot so I can bring the remaining screw in.

I think that's all I got for now. Thanks, ninjetters!

well i had asked about checking brake pads then went out and looked at the bike itself and I think i see what i need anyway. kkim also just really helped me out
specifically i thought perhaps if the pads were visible there would be a maximum wear notch and there was.

I'm actually curious as to what others have to say about this.
Would all the information on the wiki page apply to the 4th generation 250 (08-11)?

The info from the section you linked wouldn't necessarily apply. Sections would likely be similar, but I wouldn't use their numbers without cross-checking your service manual. However the subject matter under this link should apply.

For reference, we 'new-gen' riders use NGK model CR8E or ND/Denso model U24ESR-N plugs. Taken direct from the FSM. They're pretty cheap as parts go and for as important as they are to the engine, I replace them if there's any question.
