Short gloves or Gauntlet gloves
I am in the market for a pair of gloves for summer/fall. I am not going to ride in the winter.
I came across a deal for teknic gloves on ebay for the memorial weekend and can't decide on which one to purchase. Short Gloves $28 http://www.ebay.com/itm/TEKNIC-CHICA...2d675e&vxp=mtr Gauntlet Gloves $55 http://www.ebay.com/itm/TEKNIC-LIGHT...232ab4&vxp=mtr Keep in mind I am going to wear the gloves with this RED teknic jacket I purchased http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...T.ac=Cart_Item |

Gauntlets. Better protection. Not worried about colors.

No, they're fine for summer riding. Just look for a pair with some ventilation if you're worried about that.
Gauntlets typically snug around the outside of the jacket sleeve. |

Short gloves will not protect your wrists from Sun burns, wind, insects, little rocks or road abrasion.
Check this thread for reference of good ventilated gloves for summer: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=101631

Good vented gauntlet gloves will be more than cool enough when you're moving.

Gauntlets under the sleeves. Helps them from being ripped off in a crash.

Gauntlets are a huge PITA. The shorties you actually wear will protect you better than the gauntlets sitting in the closet.

I'm going to try on some gauntlets with my jacket next week but for now I purchased the short gloves as they will be more viable for me since I will mainly be riding around town at speeds around 25-50mph and the jacket will cover my wrist.

Have never had an issue cinching gauntlets around the outside of my jacket sleeves or one-piece leathers. In my last street getoff, that area on my right wrist hit and slid along the ground pretty good, and the protection in my gloves made it a non issue. The marks on the leather tell the story, though.

I would worry more about the jacket sleeves riding up and exposing the wrist personally. I put the gauntlets over my sleeves.

AFAIK, the entire purpose of gaunlets is to protect that area of your wrist where your sleeve will slide up in a get-off. I won't wear shorty gloves any more. Only place they get used is on a mountain bike, not a motorcycle.

Gauntlet, definitely gauntlet. Mine are perfed on the fingers and have a vent over the knuckles and my hands never get hot while moving.
Mine go over my textile sleeve and under my leather sleeve (cuff too big for my wrist). The scrapes and scuffs from my wreck show how well my hands and wrists were protected. I have a little pair of shorty gloves that I wore once before getting the gauntlets. I wouldn't trade the safety for the convience.

I'd suggest making sure the jacket goes with the gloves properly. I have two jackets and two pairs of gloves, one for cold and one for warm, and the gloves go with the jackets, but one (the cold gear) the gloves go over the jacket sleeve and the other they go under. If I mix, one of them doesn't go well together, doesn't fit very well.

I have a pair of each and 9 times out of ten, I wear the gauntlets... Better protection and they took a few days to break in, but are pretty comfortable. I wear them all seasons and in the winter, they get a little cool, but summer (and spring/fall), they are fine. The only time I use the shorties now is if I am doing a quick ride somewhere (like to the store and back), cause the gauntlets are a bit annoying to carry around compared to the shorties...

Gauntlets for sure.
I wore these shorties ($45 Joe Rocket Phoenix) for a while and watched a friend have a 15mph lowside wearing them with a textile jacket. Jacket held up fine and protected him well but the sleeve was pulled up as expected and had some nice wrist/hand rash. Now I have these Joe Rocket GPX gloves, paid $90 for them. I live in South Florida and they are my summer gloves, keep me cool and don't notice any temperature difference over shorties. |

So you ask for advice on gauntlets vs shorties and get 10 ppl saying gauntlets and you choose shorties cuz? They are more viable? You couldn't figure that out on your own or were you only looking for opinions that sided with yours?

if the gauntlets were $55 then they were a better deal.
just make sure there is a hard piece that covers your wrist during impact. i don't really want you to feel what its like getting your skin ground down to the bone...

He disregarded my eye witness account of shorty gloves in 15mph crash because he'll only be riding around town at 25-50mph
