@choneofakind - I seen in the oil thread you are going to switch to T6. Whatever oil you choose, make sure your running fresh oil for the track and plan a change again when you get back home for inspection sake.

That's the plan! I should be able to hold off on the oil until the week before the track (or maybe 2) Then I'll drain the oil and replace it afterwards

How do these gauntlets look? I'll buy them if needed, but I already have non-gauntlets that I like for street use, so if I don't have to buy a pair of gloves, I won't. aka, I'm still looking for options to borrow gloves

Once I get those, I think that's got me covered as far as gear goes. I'll have proper coolant and fresh oil/filter and tires right before June. I'm all set.

oh, and my buddy on his purple cbr and his brother on his FZ1 are looking into a track day also. they will both still be in school on June 4th though, so I might be heading down to chill with them on the 25th with a camera while they have their fun on the track.

Got an update on the NOVICE track day format for you chone.

Tech and riders meeting bla bla bla
Sessions start 9am sharp!
You or we (if I ride novice, they may bump me up, they know me) will be placed into smaller groups. Each group will have one or two control riders that will observe each riders body position, lines, lean, throttle control ect... ect... With controlled increased speeds and NO PASSING! (bummer on this...)
At the end of each session a control rider will review any and all issues with each rider 1 one 1 or 1 on 2.
This will continue for the majority of the day until near the final few sessions. Where you the riders will be turned loose with limited passing rules.

I am also looking at hitting this track May 13/14 running in the intermediate sessions to learn the race line. A few friends are going along as well that will be running in novice. So I will be able to tell you more then.

Start learning the track layout and watch some youtube vids of the track, paying close attention to the elevation changes through the chicanes.

Link to original page on YouTube.

Chris that's great info thanks

I've watched that video a million times and I've seen the track so I recognized the elevation changes, but the map really helped a lot. I'm not that worried about the no passing rule. I'm just glad I won't get run down on the straights.

I'm even more excited now!

Yea, if we/you get Eric, Christain or Brandon as a rider coach, your in for a real treat. These guys know their stuff. I am sure the others do as well but I don't know them personally.

I am sure they will be pitted with/beside us either way though.

Sounds like the motorcycling knowledge will just be flowing in our direction then. I am a sponge.

I'll get my bike all prepped the day before so it's easier, but what time is good to get there so I am not running around like mad and have time to chill?

Have it ready a day or so ahead of time. The night before only leads to late nights trying to figure out what you forgot. Ya know what I mean?

Yeah I know what you mean. My plan is to have it all ready except taping off lights by Saturday evening so that all I have to do Sunday afternoon is tape off lights and load up in the morning.

Cool I can print that and keep it.

Looks like I don't even have to worry about safety wire or RTV or anything like that at all as a novice:
Quote:
It is recommended that Advanced and Intermediate riders safety wire drain plugs and oil fill
caps. Minimum requirement is RTV silicone on both.
At least that's how I read it...

I know it's your first track day and I have never seen you ride but here is how I see it.

When I prep my bike, I always prep for the requirements of the next skill up group. Think about this...

You run half the day in novice and a control rider says, "Imma bump you to intermediate". And you both look at your bike and say.... "well no....". Trust me, it does happen. A street rider signs up for a novice track day and ends up in Intermediate or even the advanced group.

At a track day a lot is "handled" on the fly by the staff and you just might find yourself wanting to move up from novice or FORCED from novice into another group. So be prepared and pack some RTV at the very least.

You have a back/chest protector?

Ok, RTV sounds like a plan then to bring with me. We can apply liberally as need. Sounds like motorcycle deodorant

I do not have a back/chest protector. Only thing I got the the dual density thing in my jacket. Better than other jackets that's just foam, but it's not CE armor by any standards.

We will have to fix that too...

IMHO the riders who need back/chest protector are the in the novice group.

I wasn't planning on buying one of those ever tbh... It's just one more thing to wear and I really don't ride hard on the street. I have fun, but I know the limits.

well, until Chris suggested a back/chest protector, I really thought so too.

that, and RTV, which I'm not sure which kind, and gloves that I actually need to purchase, even though I've already found a pair I want.

AHHH!! that looks so fun!! that's the up-hill turn right before the chicanes!!! When I was there for ticket to ride, the vintage bike race was going the other direction, so that was right before the straight.

I ordered tires (and efi kit + a R-0990 and crank breather) and bought oil. Engine Ice and gloves are next. My dad is gonna get the pickup at the end of this week and then I'm all good to go.

Is any RTV high temp just fine for me? I can get a tube of that for like $5.

also, OMG I LOVE MY FULL MUZZY!!! it's quieter than my Two Brothers, and knocked my 0-60 time down from 6.73 seconds to 6.26 seconds. I'll post video eventually, but wow it pulls all over, is quieter, and sounds great!!!!

You sure? I can get that all done here before I leave.

The plan is to get it all done except taping and RTV before I leave home. That way I have plenty of time to double check.
