Road snakes (tar strips) riding question

I was curious if anyone has any advice when you encounter a road covered with tar strips?
I am a relatively "inexperienced" rider - when I experienced the loss of grip, I tried to stay calm, smooth and ride thru it - but it still was not pleasant.
Any comments or advice would be appreciated.

Just relax. Tightening up on the bars is counterproductive. The bike will be fine.

Yep, relax and do nothing. To give you some perspective, we fly over them at crazy lean and as fast as the lil ninja can go while on the track. Now that you know where they are, slow to a pace you are comfy and just ride over them as normal.

Just loosen up on the bars and keep a steady/gradual throttle.

With a sportbike, the ride will be bumpy but the grip is still there.
Be cautious,
Allow extra distance to brake, do one/two finger braking if needed, tall bumps might cause you to lock the front when emergency braking.

I have t got used to the feel of them yet, but they haven't done the negative things I thought they would either.

In addition to above good posts: make your lower body one with the bike, grab the tank tighter with your knees when you feel your arms stiffen, then loosen your arms.

They are only bad when it's hot out.

They are REALLY bad when it's wet and cold.
When its hot they are nice and grippy
When it's REAL hot (110F+ on the pavement, so maybe 100F+ air) they start being slippery again.

But on a more serious note, thank you all for your comments and suggestions - I'll try working more on gripping with my knees to lighten up on the front end - I have an odd tendency to "stand" on my pegs which probably means a) I'm tense and b) I'm not gripping right -
Everyone has been really helpful - this really is a very friendly site
