Missing oil filter washer

I changed the oil on my brother's bike today and noticed he was missing the washer that goes between the spring and filter. The Kawasaki dealership changed the oil last so I'm pointing the finger at them for not putting it back on. The first time i changed my oil I almost did the same thing. It kinda sticks to the old filter. No real harm as I can see, but its is there for a reason. Just thought I would mention it since I have seen it happen twice now.

Yet an other perfect example of why I wouldn't bring my bike to a garage for something I couldn't do myself. Changing the oil is probably one of the easiest and most common tasks mechanics are confronted with, everyday. The way I see this is if they can't perform such a task correctly then, should you trust them with something that could pose a risk to your safety? What if they had forgot that crush washer between the banjo bolt of your brake lines?

Thank God that this wasn't anything major. At least doing it yourself, you know that if anything were ever to go wrong, you would be the only one responsible.

Thats a nasty picture. Why didn't they just get a trailer instead of trying the put the bike in the back seat?
