New rider from Tampa

Hello, I'm a new rider here in Tampa, FL. Lucky enough to find a great 2009 Ninja, in perfect condition with 3000 miles on it. I took the motorcycle riding course in August and bought the bike 2 days later.

Enjoyed riding it for 3 days. Then, while practicing in cul-de-sacs (and feeling more confident with each one) I got a little too comfortable and dumped my perfect, scratch free bike. It suffered some scratches, I broke my collar bone & had to wait 4 weeks before getting back out there. A little touch up paint and wax covered up the scratches for the most part and the next purchase was a crash kit!

I've been back on it now for 2 rides and am feeling more comfortable, but definitely learned my lesson......to focus on the skills & techniques, speed is for later.

I have not had a chance to check out a lot here, but what I've read so far has been great and I look forward to learning a lot more from all of you!

Thank you! I heard it wasn't a matter of "if" but rather "when" so I got that behind me!

take learning to ride well seriously and put in some practice time in a big, empty parking lot to get comfortable with the bike at lower speeds.

Hey Marsha, where in tampa are you from? I lived in South Tampa by bay to bay/gandy area when not in school.

ahhh ok youre on the other side of tampa totally. Well either way enjoy your new ride, wish I had enough monies for the newer version. Be safe on dale mabry, people are nuts on that road.

Yes, I'm far far away from Bay to Bay. Haven't ventured out to Dale Mabry on the bike yet, will save that for later, like you said....nuts out there for sure!

Yes, hopefully by then, I will have several hundred miles of experience....for now, I'm keeping it close to home. I live in a pretty big neighborhood & fortunately there are some villages that have the roads poured, but no homes built yet, so I spend most of my time there practicing.

Thanks to you both! Actually, when I crashed, I was more concerned about the bike.... I only had it for 3 days at that point!

I rode it home (about 8 miles) & realized that I'd really hurt myself when I tried to wash my hair & couldn't raise my arm without severe pain!

The hardest part was having to wait 4 weeks to get back out there.

This will be my 3rd weekend back on it & I'm feeling more confident with each ride. I've still got a long way to go, but I'm enjoying it tremendously!

Fortunately, I live on the other side of town, so I don't go over to Dale Mabry often. Heck, I'm still a newbie, so I don't go too far from home at this point.

Thanks! Always good to hear support from people. I actually got out back in 2006 and I'm trying to go Reserve. I want to go back to AD, but school is my priority right now.
