New Bay Area Ninja owner

Hi Everyone,

Just picked up a clean 2003 Ninja 250 with only 3,240 miles on it. Lime green of course. Planning to use it as a commuter bike. Here is the arrival picture (check out the 10 year old tires!):

It got punted to the outside by my wife because there's a fuel leak in the petcock area (she's not big on smelling gas fumes in the garage). Going to replace the aging fuel line to see if that fixes it, since I was going to put in an in-line filter anyway. If that doesn't work, does anyone know why searching Ebay only gets you 08+ petcocks?

Went for a quick spin, bike seems to run fine, given that it's been ridden around than 1 mile a day since new. Doesn't want to idle coming to the light though. I think it may have to do with the fueling issue at the petcock/fuel line, we'll see.

Alex

Howdy! Are you sure that the leak is down by the fuel line / petcock? If so, great, as once you find a replacement petcock it's a pretty easy fix. The far more common fuel leak on those models is due to people punching through the gas tank with the fairing screws and putting a hole in it. That's a much more expensive problem to deal with.

Either way, I'm not sure that that leak is related to stalling while coming close to idle; that's more likely a symptom of carbs that need a good cleaning, with clogged jets.

Welcome, newest Alex! You've got two of my favorite bikes -- isn't the CB-1 fun?

Lots of us here in the Bay Area; we'll have to get another meet going soon.

Thanks everyone, would love to join a group ride of some sort in the Bay Area.

So far I've determined it's not the fuel line, but the filter and new fuel line went on anyway. I'm also fairly certain it's not the tank, the only place that is wet is the lower part of the petcock and the fuel only comes out when the bike is running. Now that I've got a new fuel line and some proper clamps, it looks like fuel is coming out the gasket on the petcock.

@bluepoof Yes, the CB-1 is lots of fun, the Ninjette makes the CB-1 feel like a fast bike

Just a quick update, I tried sealing the petcock gasket from the outside and it stopped leaking. I think I'll just go ahead and replace the petcock to be safe. Bike idles while parked, haven't had a chance to test ride yet.
