I'm getting tired of arguing about this. Jason, regardless on how much you love to be right and have the last word, bottom line is that nothing you say or do is going to change my mind on this. If you don't like what I've done to MY exhaust, that's cool... at least I know there are others out there that will appreciate it and it won't change how much fun I have riding. TO EACH HIS OWN.

I'm new here, but I thought arguments like this were sportbike.net type material. Ninjette is better than this. dubojr jumped down this guy's throat for modding his bike. sheesh. Matt - I like the sound, and I'm about to do something similar - I've got a Competition Werkes exhaust on order I hope it sounds as good as yours! (and if loud mufflers don't raise awareness, then I guess ambulances/police shouldn't bother using their sirens, eh?)

Oh and this is TOTALLY different and I'm unsure how people could see it being even remotely similar.

Logically the same to me... Simply put, "I hear something I look". I am not above learning something new. How is it totally different?

Hey I could be here wrong but I'm open to a logical discussion. I love this place for that reason. The hard part is finding those with logic to discuss it with.

So true!
Ahhhh..... I see. So continuing a logical conversation here and removing personal preferences, an audible alert (siren) can invoke a trainable and expected reaction (clear the way). While another audibles, such as an exhaust should invoke no reaction/response. So possibly the whole flaw with sound and awareness, no matter the source, is with interpretation. Also, putting personal preferences back in, like fine art, beauty is in the eye or ear of the beholder. And acceptance of what is loud or not is again personal, as rock concert goers have a great time listening to music above 90 decibels, even if it causes damage. It's also a choice of when to be an *ss or not. 3AM is pretty much the wrong time to be racing a "loud" exhaust at the end of a Cul-de-sac. Where as a semi truck with a rumbling engine brake is no more of a noise problem than any bike. Poor peeps in NYC have to deal with similar every night but they get used to it. Either way, if you can hear it, you can somewhat assert its direction, mass and proximity to your relative position. Which in turn, may save the life of the rider or your own.

Go measure your bike now matt. lol other things to consider. If people are in cars there is a sound barrier between them and the sound, same in a house. You are the person who will hear the sound of your bike the most.

I think you and I are on the same page that "Loud Pipes Saves Lives" smeared on everything is absurd. Very much of this subject is comparative to HIGH VIS gear. It don't matter if they don't look. If it increases my chances of being on someones radar, like playing the lotto, one stands a better chance of being a winner but certainly doesn't guarantee safety.
