Oh.. I'm not supposed to go over the handlebars? And shouldnt post here twice?
Well... Im back again...
So, this morning I was driving behind a truck who braked hard, but seemed like they were going more until they slammed on their brakes screeching, trying to avoid slamming into them since the light turned yellow and I was close to them trying not to stick out into the intersection, I slammed on my brakes, my front tire locked up and over the handle bars & into the back of the truck I went. The bike has a cracked fairing and the handle bar is bent to the point the bike can't turn because the handle bar hits the tank. For me, I'm fine. Got xrays. My arm is going to be really bruised and everything else like my back (which who would have guessed lifting up a 400+ pound bike was bad for your back) is going to ache. So the doctor gave me pain meds. All in all, I'm fine just beat up and sad about my baby. Things happen though. The main source of my pain is the fact I picked my bike up like it was nothing, which 350+ pounds will cause soreness. Yes, I know it could've been avoided with a little more distance. I just assumed they were pulling up more, turns out they just weren't paying attention. Thing that really pissed me off was when I got behind the truck I fought with myself for a good few seconds about getting in the next lane to go around, but decided not thinking it would be a bigger hassle when I have to merge. Trust your gut my friends.

Your bike weighs 490 lbs?
Why are you using your bike to transport weight lifting equipment? Glad you're okay. |

That really sucks bro... What bike were you riding which weighs so much? The Ninjette weighs less than 400lbs for sure, more like 375 or something. Either way, you know what you did wrong on the riding front, I can't emphasize enough, the importance of maintaining a safe distance from the car in front of you.
As far as picking up your bike is concerned, please refer to this video so as to not break your back next time |

Lol jk. Yeahh I was exaggerating. :-\ *Fixed.* On another note, glad im ok too. Wont be posting here any more. And yeah, distance is pretty important. The light turned yellow as we went through, so I was trying to get close thinking the way he was driving that he was moving up more. I was already on the brakes before he was, just he slammed before I did. Smh lol

I stay away from trucks, big trucks, minivans, etc. that totally block my way. I want to know what's happening in front of the vehicle I'm following so I can anticipate what's coming my way. Glad you're OK.

If you ride in someone's side mirrors ( view from either side), not only can you see if they are paying attention but you can pull next to them in a panic stop. This will give you an additional 20 feet of stopping.

I always stay away from anything that blocks my view at least a couple of seconds in front of the car in front of me. On both the bike and in the car I keep ample amounts of distance for a buffer in case of the need to panic stop. I sort of hate how some drivers will tailgate someone no matter what the speed, 25MPH or 80MPH, I want to remind them that the faster you go, the more distance you cover and the more braking distance is needed.

Smh. So Kawasaki just called, quoting me. $6,500 for the parts and labor total to fix my bike. Completely pissed. Might as well get a damn 300 or upgrade for that much.

I didn't report it to insurance. I dont want higher rates and what not. I'm either going to work on the bike myself, get another shop to quote me, or just upgrade like I've been intending to. They guy just called back telling me the biggest problem is the frame by the foot peg, which bent and that part alone is $1073. Idk what ima do.

No. Well, I personally, did. It was one of those mini semi trucks, kind of like Uhauls. I went into the back of it, but the bike didnt. The did didn't even notice and kept driving.

In many cases your insurance wont go up enough to warrant NOT claiming the damage through insurance as you'll spend more on repairs than you would over a few years of increased insurance. It's worth looking in to.
Alternatively - the frame by the foot peg ALWAYS bends in a crash. It's almost designed that way. But it only slightly offsets the peg in an outward direction and it's not noticeable when riding. Tell Kawasaki you don't want to replace that particular portion and get a new quote. |

Sorry to hear about your crash. Glad to hear that you're ok. Also, sucks that the truck driver was totally oblivious - it is my assumption that all other drivers on the road are out in la-la land at all times.
Good luck with repairs! |

Thanks for the feedback and input everyone.
Went to Kawi today, told them I need only to get the bike up and running. We looked at the bike together, got it knocked from $6500 to only $375. Just replacing the handle bar and fixing the exhaust. Parents aren't too happy. But I'll be fine. Learn from my mistakes, keep distance even if they look like they're going to move forward more, cagers suck.
