Motorcycle(s): 2008 Ninja 250

Cool I bought my first Ninjette, and she needs a name.

I bought her exactly one month ago today (happy anniversary!), and got my license last week. I think I was so consumed with getting ready for my test, it never occurred to me that I had not named her yet.

She is a 2008 Ninja 250. I think I am the 3rd or 4th owner. She has 15000kms on her. The only damage I found was the right front signal light must have gotten hit somehow and popped right out of the fairing. Currently held on with duct tape until I get around to some epoxy. It was not dropped in motion as there are no other scratches. She seems to be missing a fair number of screws, and has more than one zip tie replacing them. I got a screw kit this week, so I'll start that process soon.

She has not been tenderly loved, but not neglected by any stretch. I get the impression she has helped quite a few people learn to ride in the last 6 years.

With me, she has found a forever home. If I ever get another bike it will not be a trade up. She is going to be my mechanical project, since I don't have a car I feel comfortable tinkering with anymore. When my 11-year-old daughter turns 16, I can totally see her starting to learn on this bike.

Any and all suggestions are welcome!

It's easier to name your ride as you get comfortable with it an learn its personality, or mechanicalality no rush it will till be thre when you figure out a name after all

I always approach naming along the lines of T.S. Eliot.

Your bike can have a daily name, which is just whatever name sounds good to you. Either named after a favorite character/person, or named after some trait (like mine is Seiryu, green dragon - due to being green and having a dragon tank protector), or similarly common name.

Your bike could also have a personal name, learned from her personality. Is she cranky on cold mornings? Does she rail every corner? Are tires bite sized snacks for her? Does she mark her spot every time you park and claim the territory as hers? A unique, individual name that no other bike has, special only to her.

Your bike could also have a true name, something special that isn't to be shared. Private between you as rider and machine. Something that echoes the bond built from long rides, home repairs, improvements, and adventures.

Naming is fun, all in how you approach it.

In other words, I've no suggestions.

I once had a model B John Deere named SOB... The old man who owned it called it a SOB every time he went out to start it up, so 'twas forever named

I never understood the whole naming thing until I started calling my KLR "Pokey".

My suggestion. Let the kid name the bike.
Then tell her some day she will be ridding it.

Then find a good pit bike or dirt bike for her to start on.

My friends daughter and son were lightly interested in cars.
He got them a field car that they could fix and practice driving.
She was 12. when she turned 14 she was obsessed with learning how to drive standard, work on cars, traffic laws and customizing the car.

She is turning 16 next summer. I gave him my 2001 hyundai tiburon and she has been spending the last year getting it fixed up to her taste. Painting the wheels. Fixing the broke flex pipe. Overall its a very nice car and I gave it to them because it gave them a huge character building and learning experience.

Kids who spend their time working twords big goals, learn self discipline and good work ethic. Also if you introduce her to shared interests it is bonding time for you and her and kids who are busy with constructive things stay out of trouble.

Also When an empowered hard working young woman with self confidence that she built up working on cars and spending time with their father gets older she will know exactly what characteristics she is impressed with in people and she will not be impressed by a bunch of dumb highschool boys.
"
Thats my take on it.

Then again I am not a parent...... so ....

It's a sound theory, and worth getting not just her, but my 9 year old son involved as well.

I like this a lot.

From what I have seen with kids, you give them something awesome to work twords and they might go farther than you ever imagined.

I am not saying they will end up where you planned lol
But you give them something and they run with it!

lol sorta like giving a kid a trick deck of cards... he will either end up doing magic shows after school or swindling his friends out of their lunch money hahahaha

But good luck with it.

Thanks. Someday I hope to raise kids that grow up to be far smarter, wiser and more ambitious than myself.

I see the limitless potential in people.
