A public service denouncement
Read the TERMS when you sign up for something on the net;
I send very large files and often use service bureaus to send them. I was recommended to a site named GE.TT. Basically, they take your file, put it on their server and notify your intended recipient who then downloads it. Their site is FREE up to 2 gb....offers reasonably priced programs for greater capacity and works flawlessly. Works so good that I'd glady pay them to use them. BUT....as i found out later...after i signed up without reading the TERMS...when we sign up We give them and their successors exclusive ownership of whatever we put on their server....they can sell it, transfer it and use it any way they see fit. We grant them the right to access our computer to retrieve any file that we've previously put on their server as well. WTF ! I send nothing sensitive or of any intrinsic value so it's not like i'm losing sleep over this but...I gotta ask...if they werent intending on doing this...why would they put it in their TERMS ? I'd guess that stuff like this is buried in a lot of what we sign up for and now...I'm careful about it. I mean, you got to watch out...think about it...even on this board I've seen lots of pictures of naked bikes |

Well, duh. But I wouldn't worry about it. Even ninjette has a similar clause. You'd know that if you read the terms when you created your account here.
Also, why would you be using anything BUT dropbox.com for this purpose?

have you tried www.4shared.com/ ? It's free up to 10GB as far as I know. I haven't read their TOS though I don't use it much, but I've had no problems with smaller files (I think the largest I've uploaded is 399MB, and I think they have a 2GB cap for an individual file)
Also never used or even heard of drop box, but I might check that one out as well

Is it still free? I'm not really willing to fork over money for the junk that I use the sharing sites for and that would explain it, I'm a total novice with stuff like this haha

Colin....
I never read the T&C because i share your "I wouldn't worry about it" attitude. In fact...I never even thuoght about it till now. I made mention of it on this board becuase it seems to be filled with good people ( even the one's who use the word Duh ) and it's worth noting. Yeah...drop boxes are good. But on this particular day our FTP was nasty or the customer didnt know how to get on and it was just easier to refer him to GE.TT. My IT knowledge is very limited, I couldn't figure out what the prob was. Scatt...thanks for the lead. |

Right - I was also able to sneak some terms in to allow me to come and play with each of your pets for a maximum of 30 minutes per day.

I don't worry about the TOS on sites like that. Why would they bother with something small like that when thousands of people sign up on their site and choose a username and passwork that's identical to their bank account and gmail login info?
