went down today - sigh

well long story short I am an idiot and need to kick my own butt

i went on a ride today as it was beautiful out, was planning on a quick 40-50 mile jaunt. well I ended up taking on the most challenging roads around me and it was a blast, bike did great, i did ok, all in all it was a really nice ride - if it would have stopped there, when done with the twisties I had been on the bike for 150ish miles and approx 3 hours. Instead of stopping and resting i turned around for the 50 mile ride home - BIG MISTAKE.

when not moving around shifting weight and leaning the bike, my 6r is a torture rack. my wrists started to ache, my back, and neck as well. I was taking a 25 mph or so corner and was too tired, or sore or whatever to react fast enough to the debris and went down

mechanically she is sound and I rode her home but the fairing is got some rash . i will take the pc to her tomorrow to minimize but its just not worth the $400 to get a new one right now so i will have to live with the scars as a reminder to not push it. stop - stretch - hydrate -ect.

ATGATT - not a scratch on me

Well most importantly, glad to hear that you're fine and dandy. As for the bike, hope everything goes well!

that sux. glad that you are ok though. that is what worries me about the super sports. the riding position seems so extreme.

thanks for the kind words, it just erks or urks or whatever (is that even a word lol) the crap out of me as the ride home is so sedate, state hwy, pretty flat and smooth, a walk in the park if you're 100% - oh well, it definately is lesson learned. Its not going to be riding the bike hard that gives me issues - its the little sedate stuff you take for granted or try to push through - i will get a pic or two up tomorrow w/ some before and after PC shots -

since its the first real ride this season that I have pushed the bike i also have noticed how reluctant i am with my right turns, I feel really comfortable getting up and off the bike, getting my shoulders down and out turning left but its so hard for me turning right to get my body position and pegs weighted up for some reason

anyone else notice something similar

Right turns are harder for many folks, getting to full lean and managing the bike while it's leaned over. I think one reason is it is harder to maintain the smooth throttle position while you're trying to get your body position correct. Those that are good at it hold the throttle differently than you (or I) might expect, to make hanging off on the right side a little easier. I'll try and find a close-up pic to show you what I mean.

That said, I don't think it's nearly as necessary to get as far off or even to lean the bike nearly as far on the street, so without someone watching you specifically, it's hard to give universal advice on how to make it easier for you.

^^ thanks for the response. i agree if i was needing the extra clearance that getting up and off the bike a bit provides i would be way way over riding for public roads. i noticed it more as it was instinctive today on left handers to weight up and start positioning once i was confident i had my entry speed and angle where i wanted it, while i didn't on the righties. i actually seem to put more outside leg pressure on the tank while turning right, and weight more on the inside peg going left. None of it was conscious thought just natural movement. doing the other way around i really had to force my body to do so

I know describing it would take paragraphs as opposed to trailing me in a couple of corners but all my friends ride cruisers and have only one body position - laid back lol

Glad your ok! It's good that you share your story. It could help someone else. What gear were you wearing? When you post pics, please post up some shots of the gear damage as well.

Good to hear you're ok. I second Jon though. How's your gear looking now? More specifically your helmet. Did you hit that area too? Check it out and see if it needs replacing. Better safe then sorry the next time right? Glad to hear you got back up and kept going.

yeah gear is fine actually, my helmet didn't hit the ground at all and the bike and I went right into a ditch - I had JR UFO jacket, JR highside gloves, nylon ripstop bdus w/alpinestars leg armor, and oxtar matrix boots (not the ones i am selling) - boots got scuffed, and light surface abrasion on jacket and pants but no real loss of material, i only slid like 4 feet before getting to the ditch. lots of grass stains though
