New member in Wales, UK
Hi all,
I'm based in Newport, south-east Wales in the UK. Pictures show the bike as advertised on eBay where I bought her. Have joined the forum after picking up an immaculate 1996 GPX250 using some spare payout following a near-death smash a couple of years back. A sleepy driver on motorway took me out at about 60mph. Somehow I avoided being hit by any other cars and escaped with a swollen hand and sore ribs. My previous bike wasn't so lucky (Honda MSX/Grom with 215cc FinBro engine) ... the rear rim was ripped of the hub, 5 out of 6 engine mounts ripped off, and the frame wrapped around the engine's remains. Fun. Anyhoo.... have fancied a little GPX for a while, and found this one locally the day the auction went on ebay. Turns out the bike had been in a friends dealership the year before, had been fully serviced, sold a few months back to an old gent who then proceeded to give himself a hernia and so never rode it again, just polished it. The previous (and first) owner was *another* old gent who also rarely rode it... the result: 6,600 miles in 21 years, original tyres, original Kawasaki-stamped wheel weights (!) and the black chrome on the pipes still intact with a little patina. Gorgeous! Engine ran sweet, so ended up buying it there and then, and riding it home. Kinda meant leaving my commuter-scooter at the seller's house then picking it up the next evening having got a lift into work, then a train down to the seller's town. Since then the bike has had a hole in the fuel tank repair (too long a bolt had been used to secure the fairing, punching a hole in the top of the tank. Repaired using a length of stud surrounded by a cap of Loctite 9394 (I think, I'll clarify later), a fuel/oil/solvent/heat proof semi-flexible adhesive 2-pack cement. It's then had a set of Racetech cartridge emulators fitted to the forks with new hyperpro springs to suit me, plus gaiters which allow the dust-seals to be removed to reduce stiction. Tested these by hitting a 2" pot hole at 20mph with the wife on the back... didn't feel a thing and the front end didn't twitch. Lovely! The rear end linkages have been re-greased, and the shock replaced with an adjustable Hagon unit with a 38mm cartridge and remote hydraulic pre-load adjuster. Should make things more comfortable/stable for taking the wife on the back. Oh, and new wheels, bearings, grease-seals, and Pirelli Diablo Scooter tyres front and back. Haven't fitted the front yet, so will update when tested. I'm keeping the original wheels in case I ever decide to concourse her etc. All the best, Gavin. |

Thanks
Thanks for the warm welcome all. Will try to give some more updates as I get used to the bike. All parts fitted now, just waiting for a nice dry evening to take her out. Weather has turned damp and horrible since I finished working on her. Typical.
