No Turnover Even with Jump

As of January I was riding the ninjette just fine. then I was in a car accident and the bike sat outside. By the time I got around to healing and trying to start the bike, the battery was dead as expected and the carbs which have been needing a rebuild were probably gummed up. Since my generator cover was leaking (later found out, the cover still had the original gasket. then I proceeded to sandwhich a new gasket. doh!), I pulled out back and took off the cover, replaced the gasket and made sure the starter gear was in place.

Now my battery is charged, but even when jumped the bike doesnt turn over. It did a few times, and then just stopped. If I hold down the button long enough I can hear a straining noise and the motor may turn a hair. Then to top it off, at one point while holding the starter button, the motor turned once and there was a deafening pop from the exhaust. It sounded like a mortar in my little metal shed.

That is all I got out of it. As a side note, I drained everything again and pulled off the cover and the starter gear fell out (I dont have a center stand so the bike leans). I had to do this because when I tried to pull the starter off, it wouldnt come. Turns out it was jammed up against the gear. Once the gear came out, the starter came off easily.
Even after resetting everything, the bike still wouldnt turn over even hooked up to my yukon's battery.

there is also a grinding sound somewhere. I'm wondering if all the oil didnt drain from a cylinder and thereby causing a stiff movement?

I was really hoping to get this back on the road so I could focus on my zx6e project.

Sounds similar to when my R1 starter motor and starter relay died at the same time.

Hydrolocking perhaps? Never heard of it, but would make sense with my huge backfire.

And the fuse was good and the starter turned fine when not in the bike. But maybe a load is too much for it?

In the relay is an electromagnet that opens and closes the circuit when you hit the start button. Sometimes they just go bad and sometimes you will get a start, sometimes you won't. You'll get a loud click if you hit the button and the relay doesn't close the circuit. I'd wait for someone more knowledgeable to reply but those were my issues when I had starting problems.

You may have a problem with the gears of the starting mechanism (the one that felt off).
I would try turning the engine by hand from that plug on the generator cover after removing the spark plugs.

Yes!!!! this ^^^ ensure free engine movement before using the ignition. If you have scraping sounds or anything like that, put a tad bit of oil/gas mix in the cylinders via the spark plug holes and let it sit for a few days and try again by hand. It make take some time and patience.

As it turns out, I did turn the motor by hand. No scraping sound really that I remember, but I did hear the starter motor turn so I figure the teeth are engaged at the gear on both sides. I did not take out the sparkplugs however, so that will be the very first thing I do when I get home. I'm fully expecting to see gas or oil squirt out.

I'm just concerned that the cylinder on the left is full of some liquid since the bike sat for a while on the side stand (several months...stupid car accident)

Alex.s, what is the starter paw? I couldnt find a good image of which piece that is. I know the teeth were well engaged since I installed the starter first, and then the starter gear to be sure it was all lined up.

Once I deal with the cylinders and the plugs, I can see if it turns over fine without the compression. If not, I do have a couple spare starters I could try. and I'm 90% sure the starter from my 6e would work in there too. Haha
