09 Ninja 250r wont stay idle without choke
so this problem started a while ago...bike was running very boggy if that's the right word...my girl could not get it to go over 20....looking online there were a couple of options....so I first tried new spark plugs and a fuel system carb cleaner...that did not work so my next step was to take the carbs and air cleaner out for cleaning...so i put them back in today....bike is just as bad.
Major problem...using the throttle makes bike putter out barely reacts unless choke is on. Here is a quick video of the problem: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DmiZc_t4n20&feature=plcp |

Welcome Tim!
Hmmm.... Sounds like an aftermarket exhaust and not getting enough gas. Was the bike ever tuned for the new exhaust? Vac leak somewhere maybe? When you cleaned the carbs did you ensure all jets and other pathways were clear?

The bike is running bad in the video partly because you have the side cover off of the air filter and you are trying to throttle a cold engine. If you've cleaned everything, put it back together, start it with the choke and let it warm up, then set the idle to about 1350 rpms and see what happens.

OK...will try the suggestions to day when I wake up And get back to everyone....thanks for the responses so far :-)
O and the jets and all were pulled, wired and sprayed through for proper spray and the exhaust didn't effect it for a few months before the problem but I will put the stock on to verify. |

If your wearing a hoodie/jumper outside then its too cold and you need to let it warm up.
When its below 45F outside the 250 needs time to warm up. Some mornings it takes me 5+ mins before I can even move. Give it throttle and its going to stall. |

sounds like you need to let it warm up before we can tell if there is an issue.

There are about 4 or 6 (can't remember) other air/gas pathways in the carbs. Those need to be just as clean as the jets. I hope you get it figured out.

Welcome to the site, Tim !!!
Also check that the air intake is free and that all the electrical connections to both spark coils are clean and solidly connected (it sounds to me that one cylinder is not firing).

THANKS for all the welcomes! Well stupid me it was the idle turned too low....and it is idling pretty good now. Must've had something happen when it was stripped apart, now the back is back to my original problem which is a little less severe....I will post a video showing it later...but basically when i "crack" the throttle there is a delay and it wants to stall out. I have to kinda easy into it to keep it revving, but then it still starts to miss. Like I said, I will have to show on a video. It has been warmed and I ran seafoam through it just in cases something was missed when disassembled.

THought it was all under control....but there is still a "delay" when the throttle is opened and then while holding it, will not rev higher than a couple thousand. LIke it won't allow it to move.

That happened to me once when I forgot to hook up the gas tank lines correctly after I put the tank back on. Is there gas in the tank?

Yea...about half tank, fresh gas. I'll have to check the routing again. Damn haha, o well. The new plastics won't be here for another week or so anyway so time to strip her down again :-|
