Being Blown Off Your Ninja

I was doing a search on this site trying to figure out if the ZG DB screen was better than the Puig DB screen. After reading through several threads I am surprised to hear many people complain about having huge amounts of wind blowing against them when they ride. There was one report of a person feeling like he was going to fly off his bike when he went on the freeway at freeway speeds.

Is it just me or are a lot of people expecting to be wind free while sitting upright on their 250s?

I wouldn't say so, but I think it's never a good feeling to have the wind be pushing you around...

I have a puig double bubble windscreen and I love it. I was torn between the zero gravity and puig and I'm glad I went with the puig. Overall I feel like the puig is great quality, a perfect fit and it looks worlds better than the ugly zero gravity imo.

It's part of the learning experience of appreciating the tucked riding position. It reduces fatigue, etc.

I must be strange cause I've never felt like I was going to be blown off the bike and actually enjoy the wind most of the time. It's like an all natural AC system.

Only time I felt like I was going to get blown off a bike was when I went near WOT on a z1000. Tucking in even on a bike with no windscreen helps, sitting up straight you are almost like a parachute for your bike .

Lol If your in a full tuck your fine. Ive had the 636 up to 158mph (GPS) and I didnt fall off

Whenever I reach ~75 mph (speedo indicated), I do a full tuck. It definitely helps when riding against a hard wind.

Going against wind is a pain, but DB helps with that a lot. I can tuck and not have to lay right on top my tank any more to get full wind clearance. I love my hotbodies screens.

As for wind hitting from that side, thats a pain in the butt. I was on my bike today and was swerving all over the place every once and a while. Counter steering to go straight is kind of an odd feeling. But I dont think anyone has actually been blown off their ninja before... not that I've read.

The winds are usually around 20mph in Central Illinois, sometimes much higher. They do kind of blow you around when they're hitting you at the side when your going 80, but I'v never felt them to be a problem. The only time head wind is a problem is if it's cold out.

Yep. Raced my ninja at fontana in 45 to 60mph. went against the wind in sixth gear pinned on the straightway. Figured if the kids on their 125's weren't blown off the track I wouldn't be.

I have the ZG DB windscreen and i love it. I personally thing they would be the same. ZG looks good and works good. but that all really matters for me.

Most of the riders who complain about this are usually new. I too felt the same way a couple years back when I got my first bike, an 01' Ninja 250. Freeway, the first time (2nd hour of first ride, I just went for it :P) freaked me out.... The ground right under you moving fast, the cagers not the least bit worried as you shake, clutching on for dear life. Ha ha the good days...

I have yet to get a new windscreen although I would like a little added area as even crouched (I'm 6" 2') wind can be an issue. I have more an issue being blown around lanes rather than wind pushing me back. Although, when I first started riding, I had the issue of being blown back, what can help with that is CORE EXERCISES and proper riding position/techniques. Sadly, everyone I know or meet who complains of this, no offense, are usually weak and frail and are riding incorrectly to begin with.

I haven't felt any headwind/tailwind to be an issue. My problem is being blown around lanes like shiftyninja stated.
25-30 mph winds with gusts to 40+ makes for a not so enjoyable ride.

Yeah it is but I went on a rant like usual. Anywho, I think the scariest is riding 90+ then being blown across the freeway and stopping just short of going over the line. That set me straight, let me tell you.

6'4" 280lbs. Rode my Jette to school for the first time the other day and on the way home BOOM it started raining. Was actually my first time Riding in city traffic as well LOL Damn I was nervous. But yeah at one point the wind started kicking and I felt the bike being pushed to the right. Slowed down a bit and rode it out. Overall I felt ok driving in the rain, just got really nervous turning.
What a wild first day of biking.

I don't mind AT ALL if the wind is pushing against me if I'm sitting upright even at 80mph, the only thing I'm scared about is the wind pushing the bike around. It feels like the wind is attacking the bottom and pushing the bike to the side and sometimes I would fight it. Should I be afraid of the bike slipping from under, especially if I turn? What are the suggestions

No, you are using very little of your traction capabilities on the highway, a little lean into the wind is not going to hurt. The wind is pushing the bike over and you are subconcsiously leaning into it to balance it. It makes it feel like the wind is blowing the tires out from under you.

Tuck in as much as you can, be loose on the bars and ride it out. The buffeting on the helmet is the worst.
