Ninjettes Fighting the Dragon! - May 16th-20th

hey guys, since i live semi close-ish (same state kinda ) i was wanting to get a group together for the dragon. i think it would be epic to have a fleet of Ninjjettes heading to fight the dragon this riding season.
May 16th-20th

i have made a group on here, so post if you want to try and ride it this season just post on here and ill add you to the group.

any questions or concerns please feel free to post them here or message me. also if any of you have rode the dragon before tips and tricks are very welcome since this will be some/most of our first times.

May 16th-20th

Here is the Group http://www.ninjette.org/forums/group.php?groupid=35

*Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort has gas pumps, however it is advisable to have a full tank prior to arriving. There are several other gas stations in Robbinsville, and one (Skyway Food Mart) at the jct. of Hwy143 (Cherohala Skyway & Tapoco Road) Hwy 129, just south of the resort. There is a full service motorcycle repair shop (www.wheelersperformance.com/ ) on Hwy 129 as well. There are also several gas stations in the Vonore area along Hwy 411 just north of the Resort

May 16th-20th

*By participating in any group ride/event with this or any other group of riders you are doing so entirely upon your own initiative, will, risk and responsibility. By participation in any event you and those you invite are stating you/they are experienced in and familiar with the operation of motorcycles and fully understand the risks and dangers inherent in motorcycling and you/they are voluntarily participating and you/they expressly imply and assume the entire of any accidents or personal injury, including death, which you/they could sustain to your/their person and property as a result of participation. *

I would love to go... If it's on a weekend it shouldn't be a problem. But weekdays i would have to request time off from work.

Thinking May thanks to march being a no-go. Also I may or may not have a passenger, depends if she's still up for it at the end of the semester.

Can I suggest the Ironhorse Motorcycle Lodge for an overnight? http://ironhorsenc.com/
It's nestled in between the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway, both of which are must-rides in that area. http://www.cherohala.org/

First time I rode the Dragon I didn't even know what it was. I was just headed to New Orleans, from Boston, down the Blue Ridge and it looked good on a map.

Sounds like a great place to stay especially considering that there are other must rides in the area instead of just the dragon. Which one we go for would depend on how many people we have riding though. I like the idea of lodging in a nice resort while I'm down there as opposed to camping in a tent the whole time. If we go with that we've gotta use the grill for some BBQ at some point.

CC was that back before it became a famous road or were you just oblivious?

Write me down as a slim chance to none There is a tiny chance I could swing a weekend. Perhaps meet up with @Sirref and any other more northern riders that want to make the trip. Perhaps group up some where in MD/VA and cruise down together?

time will tell

You can camp, bunk, or get a cabin at Iron Horse. AND they have fresh cooked breakfast and nightly (DELICIOUS) dinners. Most of their dishes are reasonably priced except for the Friday night prime rib they cook. But that is worth the $$! That **** is GOOOOOD!

alright so there's the tail, Cherohala Skyway, and blue ridge. Are there any other crazy good roads in the area? Thinking mostly scenic as I may have a passenger but I can definitely appreciate a good twisty road. (fun fact: I ride slow as hell with a pillion rider and I'm fine with that)

Put me down as tentative. I REALLY want to but it will depend on work. I may have 2 others that may want to come if they're welcome. Both will be on Buels. And one other that rides a Victory Hammer.
We where talking of doing this for a couple months now.

There is a small portion of Hwy 28 (Bryson City Rd) which runs south from the Resort to the town of Franklin that's nice and scenic and twisty. It runs down thru the mountain on one side, you crossover the "Lost Bridge" (Rd 1369) and come back up Needmore Road, that runs back towards Deals Gap and Hwy 28 along side the creeks. It's is a very good road. Most people people don't ever do that route, except those coming from the south going to the Dragon.

Check this page out - it mentions other roads around the dragon. There are decent maps, directions, and descriptions of each road around there. I rode the Dragon 2up with no issues on a 2007 Ninja 250. I have done the dragon already on my Ninja 300 but not 2up.

@7oxSin : When trying to get a group together, especially a large group, the hardest and impossible thing is to find a date. I suggest picking a date so people can start planning for it whether to take days off or budget or whatever. Just a suggestion and my

Looks I was beat to it, but hwy 28 between Franklin and Highlands is really pretty and curvy. There's always a lot of traffic, so expect to go slow and be stuck behind folks, but the view is pretty unique.

As far as views (AND twisties!) the Cherohala and the BRP are where it's at.

It's about 72 miles (or about 2 hrs depending on traffic) from the Dragon, it's part of the Moonshiner 28.
It can be part of a nice ride for the day.

Mid week would mean those of us who work regular hours wouldn't be able to join. Midweek is better in every way, but that eliminates me.

The waterfall is in Highlands, NC. If you're coming from the south, it's not too inconvenient (and worth it to take the scenic, twisty route!), but it's almost 2 hours away from the Dragon.

The waterfall is in Highlands, NC. If you're coming from the south, it's not too inconvenient (and worth it to take the scenic, twisty route!), but it's almost 2 hours away from the Dragon.
hmm what if we made a bigger event like weekend for those of you who work conventional jobs and then it would daisy chain into the week for some of us who work on the weekends?

I skipped most of what was said. I live an hour away so I'll just drive to-from every day. I'm there about once a week so just let me know and barring illness or random acts of God i'll be there.

Oh, Wheelers is a great place for bits. He will also set up your suspension (non 250) for $30. Bogarts in North Carolina is a fantastic place to eat. There are several places to get gas in the area but they are all about 10 miles apart. Devil's Triangle is a good route.

Just a suggestion.

Make it like a Fri-Sun event. Fri can be for weekend workers & early-birds who have the time off and want to catch some goods runs on the Dragon without a lot of traffic. Sat-Sun can be for those who work 5/40. Have a good meet up time and roll out wherever folks wanna ride for that day.

^ there could also be a core group that goes through multiple times and people can just head down for their choice of times.
