Bike purchase questions
Looking at a 2008 250R and want to know if the price is right. The bike is red, one owner (40+ years old), has 17,800 miles, never been dropped, no cracks or scratches, new chain, tires, and front +1 sprocket (comes with stock sprocket as well), has receipts for every oil change (synthetic oil) and all maintenance since day one. He wants $2,000 for the bike and I was wondering if it is priced right. I was going to offer $1,800 due to the miles. There is a 09 for $2,500 with 2 years of warranty left, same condition, and only 3500 miles that I could grab as well. So do you think he is priced right and do you think my offer is fair. I would rather not spend $2,500 since his bike runs and rides excellent and has no abnormal engine noise. I forgot the bike is stock except for the sprocket and smoked windscreen (touring style).

Wow, 17k miles is a lot. Most 250s don't even make it to 10k

The guy has receipts and the bike has never been laid down or crashed. Can you give a straight answer I am looking to buy either tomorrow or sometime this weekend.

Nevermind looked it up. These bikes can go up to 30 - 50,000 miles if maintained properly. I will have the bike looked over and have any problems fixed just to be on the safe side. But back to the price, is $2,000 high or a decent price I am offering $1,800 anyways and will probably stick to that price. If I should go lower let me know.

30k miles is a gross underestimation for a well maintained bike. It's rare to find a 250 being sold by a guy who didn't beat on it and has maintainence records. I'd give him 2k no problem, I'm also in cali tho

Thanks, yeah you have a nice mark up in prices. This is on the low end for my area though. I will stick to $1,800 unless someone closer to my area chimes in with other thoughts.

18k miles = dat engine gon' 'splode.
All kidding aside, I'd give the first guy his asking price of $2,000 since it's so well maintained. If I know a seller is honest and took care of their ****, I'm more prone to giving them their asking price or close to it if the research checks out. |

Same here. That bike was well loved. Give him what he is asking for if you are able to!
My bike has 21k and I've beat the crud out of it. I am however confident it will run for at least 21k more

Okay thanks everyone for the responses. I can give him his asking price but wanted to do a few apperance mods (Flush mount signals, double bubble, integrated taillight, fender eliminator) as well as some full length boots (instead of my shoes) and leather vented gloves (instead of my bare skin). In a way I am being selfish but the extra $200 will help me do a few mods and get some better gear for safety.

Skip the pointless mods and get some real gear. Flush mounts won't stop your skin from coming off and a fender eliminator won't prevent your ankle from breaking
Priorities man! Cmon!

I plan to get those mods and the gear at the same time, and the $200 extra dollaroonies in my pocket will help out towards that. That is if he will go for the $1,800, cash is king, and I am only taking that with me. I will probably go to a ATM if he does not go for my offer. Either way the bike is coming home with me.

Take the bike for 2k. I got mine with 12k for $2600. Runs amazing but condition wasn't as great as yours sounds. Mine came with a few scratches, was dropped so the bodywork isn't that great but still happy with it.

I always try to haggle the price down on anything I buy. I once got a car that was posted for 900 for 400 but that is a different story. The bike looks great and 2k seems great. I paid 1300 for my 2000 but it only had 5k on it.

Thats what I was thinking and in all honesty $200 is not that much. I just want to be a little selfish and greedy and do the few small mods and finally get some proper gear.

I actually do plan on keeping the bike for awhile. At least the rest of this season and next season, and then I may give the bike to my wife to ride.
During this winter I am planning a Full Yoshi or Scorpion Serket, Jet kit, Carb clean, Respray (Pearl White), Hugger, Projectors, Spiegler lines, Pre-load adjusters, Clip-ons, Levers, 4.5" rim, Pirelli rosso 2's or Bridgestone bt-003's tires 110F-150R, and a few other small mods. |

Gratz on the bike! $200 will not get you proper gear though. Gunna need a bit more $$$.

Oh, give him the 2K; that's a steal, and he might not be willing to go down any further.
Considering that I sold my 2010 for just slightly less miles for quite a bit more, you're getting a really good deal.

Uhhh those pics are for the $2k bike that you want to give $200 less so you can buy some farkles? The bike already has flush mounts and a DIY fender eliminator...Those themselves could save you potentially $200. Give him his asking price.

Unregistered just an fyi, that was a great deal. In this area, the going rate for new gens is $2500-$3500 depending on condition, mileage and farkles.

I had a 2009 250R and some lady ran it over parked in a wal-mart parking lot. I decided not to do any work to the bike and just let it go. I have been riding since early 2012. Beforehand I raced dirt bikes and have rode several different bikes in between. Just really like the Ninja 250R for style, price, fuel mileage, and economy transportation.

Let me rephrase then, why do people buy a bike with the intent of doing $1500 of mods rather than just ride it. I get modding the bike but ****, take it around the block first
