My Brand New 2012 Ninja 250R first bike

Hello guys and gals,

Today is a good day for me, I just got my first bike (well first sport bike).
It is brand new from the dealer with 1km on it!

I'm currently 20 years old full time student. gonna be using this bike as a commuter to school and work. I previously owned a Gio 125cc dirt bike in which i learned to initially ride a bike

My next step is to find decent insurance, i have a M2 and i have done the safety course. any suggestions to company's?, i live in Canada, Ontario, woodbridge. 20 years old, never previously insured with motorcycles, have a g2 (about 4 years), Go to collage full time, no tickets, accidents etc...

Get lots of pictures now then go riding. Soon that 1 will be 10, then 100, then 1000.... Ah, they grow up so fast.

Awesome dude, I will never forget my first day when I got my bike. That feeling hasn't seemed to fade yet and I doubt it ever will.
I have progressive but I'm 27 and live in 'merica so doubt that really would be any help

I don't know if there is Progressive Insurance company in Canada, but for me they are the cheapest by far of all the ones I quoted.

For basic liability, my cheapest was around 200, until I called progressive and they quoted me $75. In the end, I ended up buying uninsured/under insured of 50k coverage, as well as 100 dollar deductible for full coverage. All of this for.... $217, and I just got my motorcycle license and my very first bike for less than 1 week!!!

in Canada we have a no fault law, and also we are required to have 1 million liability. so when we get in an accident, our own insurance deals with us, this is why Canada insurance is crazy, you guys are pretty lucky to only pay $100 a month ( i wish), i am probably gonna have to pay like $3000 a year minimal if i'm lucky and find a good company!

Welcome to our site, Parry !!!

Erase that possibility from your mind, properly trained motorcyclists make that "when" so remote that it becomes almost an impossible.

It takes work, dedication and many hours of boring practice, ............but it is much better alternative than getting hurt in the first three months of riding.

Check all the threads of our Riding Skills section.

Congratulations on your new shinning baby, from now on, you are the only responsible person to keep it in top shape for many years to come.

Ride much, ride well and ride alert and smart !!!

Congrats on the bike and glad you could join us! Don't forget to gear up proper. I suggest reading through this insurance thread from a local forum. It might help answer some of your questions.

your best bet is through TD or Desjardins given you have a decent record...
