Wife's first bike

Hi everyone! I just got my wife a new black 2009 250R for her first bike. I've been riding since the 70's. I just started riding again after taking a MSF course through the Minnesota Army National Guard a year ago. The last bike I owned was a 1989 Suzuki GSX R750 when I lived in San Diego - can't beat Palomar Mtn or Angeles Crest Hwy. I've been back in Minnesota since 1994 and was just now able to get a bike again. Toys are low on the list when you have a family. I now have a "raven" 2009 YZF R1 that I'm modding up. Unfortunately I won't be able to ride or teach my wife to ride until the spring when I get back from Iraq. I have three months to go on a one year tour as an MP. I can't wait until this summer. I only hope my wife loves riding as much as I have. I had to get her a bike of her own because two up on a sport bike is no way to go. I know the Ninjette is an awsome first bike and it was my first choice for her - plus she loved it as soon as I sent her a picture of it! I found this site looking for info on mods. I'm also a member of
R1-forum.com, so I thought this would be a great source for information. Thanks for all.

Welcome to the forum and welcome back to the world of riding! Be careful on that bike until you shake the rust out of your joints.

I've got plenty of respect for sportbikes. I had my little "get off" on my gixxer
up on Palomar on a fast downhill sweeper at 70. I got a compound fracture of the ulna, broke off the iliac crest of my hip, and a fractured anlke. As always, I was leathered up. Not a scratch except for a few broken bones. I got to ride in an ambulance and a helicopter, then spent five days in the hospital. You tend to learn from experiences like this. I'll be taking it plenty slow to start. The military just started offering a MSF a course for sportbike riders not too long ago. I plan on taking a few courses as well as getting some trackdays where you don't have to worry about cars or idiots being on the road. My wife will be taking some classes as well. A persons level of maturity
and attitude have a great influence on how they ride. I'm 48 now and I know I'm not invincible but there is risk involved with everything and that is part of the allure of riding a motorcycle.
