My Roller Coaster of a Life

My dad was giving me the Zx6r. I put new tires, he then crashed it the same day. Cool.

Ouch. New tires with a super sport is always a reason to be extra cautious...

You should probably be more concerned about your dad and be happy that he is okay, if that is the case. As you mature you'll realize that people are what's important and material things are not. Material objects are also far more replaceable and repairable.

Nonsense!

Disregard family, acquire motorcycles!

Also, kick your dad, kick him hard! Then call him a grade A benny and demand remunification, if he declines, kick, demand remunification, repeat.

@Aurodox I don't think it was the tires fault. I think he ran wide and is lieing. Bike needs a new set of plastic. Handlebar might be bent. Lots of things that I fixed and spent lots of money on is now broken.
@Trailerboy531

I don't feel sorry at all. I told him several times to borrow my gloves and knee pads. I was happy too. I haven't actually seen his scrapes, but my mom said he has a really bad gouge in his hand, and scraped his knees.

Many details not included. I'm not an *sshole, but this could have been prevented. I'm not going to go into details and waste my time arguing, because I know it's material item. But I'm mot worried about my dad.

I didn't tell you to be worried Nick, I told you to be happy that you're not visiting him in a hospital. If he made a mistake that's his problem but it says a lot about you to be happy about it.

He sounds like he was being a prick, I also assume he isn't insured and able to pay you for the damages.

I can't help but being taken back to that place where I came off my bike aged five, six, seven, eight... Etc each time my mum would say "serves you right!" I would get told off for bleeding then have to run it under a cold tap for ages.

Moral of the story, you do stupid things, you end up getting what you deserve.

I'm concerned, but pissed off. I was planning on trying out a track day this year. I hope there isn't any more unseen damage. I told him not go on Mucky Run Rd. This road is fun, but a bike killer. Especially this time of year. Sand everywhere, and very bumpy. But, he went there, and panicked, braked, and ran off. At least he was using his jacket and helmet. His helmet is screwed.

I'm not happy about it. I am glad it's not worse. But it didn't have to be this way. He was stubborn, end of story. Welcome to life me

So you learn from his mistakes what you can, he learns from them, and if he does right by you then he pays to repair the bike. Everybody is happy.

I've watched friends crash my bike and I've crashed a friend's bike; each time the first question asked was "are you okay?" That's priorities in order. Don't be mad, just be glad he's okay.

Sounds like you have a good set of track plastics now!

Maybe. I saw a pretty bad crack on the rear cowl, wouldn't want the wind catch it and tear it off.

Solution to make it track-safe: duct tape. Aka, you now have track plastics.

1)Make sure dear old dad is recovering and is okay.
2)Tell him he makes poor choices on a motorcycle.
3)Sign motorcycle title over to self/sell it for a 300.
4)...
5)profit

This is less than three hours before I woke up from a nap, walked down the stairs and saw bandages on his hand. I knew what happened right away.

His jacket is fine besides a little blood, which by the way is on the bike too. His helmet is screwed, lots of rash, and maybe some internal damage. He said he doesn't know how he hurt his hand. He was wearing his Walmart bicycle gloves. It's more of a gouge than road rash. Anyway.. on with the thread.

If you lived in california, you could have 2 dads. Then when dad #1 does something stupid like this, you still have dad #2 to fall back on.

Worrying about your dad is nonsense. Flesh can grow back and heal itself, bikes cost money.

Honestly, though, I know you said you spent money on the bike, but aren't you getting the bike itself for free?

I was going to buy it from him at a less than reasonable price... lol he wanted to trade it for my dirt bike (I was going to pay the difference.) to teach my little brother to ride. Ever since I started riding and liking it a lot, all my family, even cousins, are copying me lol At least I'm the better rider, solely because of this forum lol my dad could be a better rider than I, he just keeps doing dumb stuff lol

So I went to the scene of the accident. It kinda looks like he just rode straight off the road. Target fixation maybe?

Is this still a concern? (I am getting new tires put on tomorrow). I thought new tires being slick was a thing of the past, and not an issue with modern tires.

No. Just don't be stupid. Let them go through some heat cycles. Be cautious leaning over, gradually ease into hard leaning rather than going hard right away. Be cautious before getting hard on the brakes. Basically just be smooth and aware of the feedback you're getting from the tires.

I took a set of brand new tires on the track with >50 miles on them. They definitely were better by the afternoon when I got them totally up to temp, but never did I feel any slickness.

The biggest issue with new tires is that people are not accustomed to the profile/heating characteristics of a new tire. So they go hard, they go down, then they blame the tire for being slick. It's funny because you can literally watch racers put brand new tires on, then go drag an elbow within 45 seconds of rolling out of the pits.

here's how i see it, nicky

your dad supported your hobby extremely well and was very supportive. he wanted to take out the bike he paid for, because ****, who wouldn't? he made a mistake and the consequences were tiny. now you're all pissy because you felt like you were entitled to the bike because you put some work and money into it and that he had no right to use it and crash it. if i was close enough, i'd smack you in the head. bikes crash. money is meaningless. your father is blood and can't be replaced. you shouldn't give a **** about some stupid piece of metal and plastic. if anything, its an excuse to get your hands dirty and put some more work into the zx. but your attitude is completely unacceptable. especially in regard to your father. be lucky you still have your father around. it's not a benefit everyone has, and it really is unfortunate how many people take these things for granted. bikes get crashed, nick. its part of the game. if you think you won't crash that zx yourself, you've probably got a surprise coming. so maybe instead of being all pissy and bitchy you can say OK, get to work fixing it, help your dad while he heals, then when things come around you'll be in the plus on karma.

TL;DR: stop being a little bitch, nick. i'm gonna smack you through facebook.

I have learned throughout the years that sometimes regardless of the consequences some people need to be put in their place and that harsh words get through to children a bit more.

In this thread this little punk has shown arrogance about his skill that he does not have, entitlement to a bike that is not his a complete disregard for his fathers well being topped off with being flat out rude and insulting to his father who is not even a member here so he cant defend himself or put the smackdown on his kid.so umm yea this kid can kindly go **** himself.
