Gas tank removal
Hey guys. I'm removing my gas tank (general maintenance, clean carbs, etc).
So when I remove both hoses from the petcock I have a little dripping. Fuel tap is in ON position. I drained the tank by putting it in PRI, but I'd like to fix this issue. What could be the cause? Bad fuel tap? Should I take it out and clean it? |

Dripping constantly, or a few drips when you take off the hose and then it stops?

Constantly.
Never stops albeit it is a small dripping, it prevents me from taking off the tank with fuel in it (had to drain it) |

What year is the bike? As far as 2007 or older (pregen), in any position there should be no fuel dripping. If there is, then your petcock is leaking and a new one is $50-75. As far as the 2008 and newer, I'm not sure.

No fuel should drip if your petcock is in good working order. You will have to clean it, rebuild it or buy another. :\ No worries though, it's mostly a cheap and easy fix.
Try this first and check your oil for gas contamination.

Oil is fine, seems like the float valves are saving me for now.
Gonna open the petcock and see what I can do. I've checked bikebandit and they sell the parts individually, so maybe if I find a bad part I could replace than only http://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/...4177#sch731530 Maybe 43049. It is common for a 3 year bike to have the petcock gone bad? Thank you |

This guy is pretty beaten. Should I try to straighten it to see if that solves the issue? The rubber seals seem to be in good condition

I have seen several pregen 250's have the rubber smilely face go bad from contaminated fuel and the fuel switch rubbing until it starts to fall apart. Sometimes people put an inline shut off valve in place instead of buying a new petcock- what ever floats your boat. |

Guys I took the carbs out and now I'm reassembling. Can you give me a link where it shows where goes every hose from the carb and the emissions system?
Thank you |

Have seen a drain hose on some bikes on the sensor routed to the swingarm area. In my world it is extra weight....
