My first Ninja!

Hey there.

So this weekend, after looking for a few weeks, I found my bike. I picked up a 2009 Ninja 250r with 9k miles on it. Little fairing damage, needs front signals, a right hand mirror, has a few screws missing and needs a new battery. I got a great deal and rode it around this weekend. I'm somewhat new to riding and of course I'm going to have a few questions. A bunch of my friends ride as well and I'm sure you'll see me post some things on getting people together for a ride. We're located in the San Fernando Valley in CA. I posted in the "wanted" thread because I'm looking for a rear seat. I have a black cowl that I could trade + some $ for the seat. Anyway, feel free to e-mail me and chat if you'd like!

I think intro threads should require pics if the person already owns the bike.

Yes, I've been actively searching craigslist for some good deals.

Just noticed yours is an '09 so it couldn't have been the one in Westwood. The description of your bike just seemed very similar to the one in Westwood, except for the seat cowl though.

Black, preferably stock, and as long as the bike has been well maintained I'm not to concerned about the mileage.

Hey! Thanks!!

Yes, I sure do! I have a Scorpion EXO textile jacket, EXO helmet and Bilt gloves and boots. In CA if you're under 21 you must take a MSF course in order to get your license.

Thanks for writing me! Looking forward to hearing more from everybody!

Yes first bike. Black is just a good looking color. Not a fan of loud colors so the green and reds are definitely out of the question. Though if a good deal came along on one I wouldn't pass it up.

If I do end up getting a bike soon I'd be down to ride with you guys considering how close Valencia is to Granada Hills.

I totally agree. I like black a lot more then the loud colors. However, it's all about being seen and safe. So sometimes louder colors are good. Just personal preference. And if you find a bike that isn't the color you like and want to paint it just let me know. My best friend and his brother are certified mechanics and work on cars and bikes all the time in their garage at home. He just re-painted their dad's car and it looks great. He rides a GSX-R 600 and is working on a CBR 600 right now; rebuilding it from the frame up. So if you need a paint job just let me know.

That would be awesome. I have a friend who just got a ninja and another one who is picking up one over thanksgiving weekend. When we're all on winter break and back in town I'd be up to coordinate a ride! Random question... How old are you? Our age range is 19-23

Hey.

So, I purchased an insurance policy with Progressive the day I purchased my bike. For liability only, I'm paying $178/year. I have 2 incidents on my record (ticket from when I first got my license and solo vehicle crash) and have taken the MSF course. I was just wondering what everyone else has as far as insurance providers and what type of coverage you have. Also, who do you think provides the best coverage for the lowest dollar? Thanks!

That doesnt seem bad, I would highly suggest getting full coverage though. I think I pay $30/month for full coverage 100/300/100 through progressive, but with your incidents it might be a little more.

Yea, I'd like to get full coverage, but it came out to over $800 for the year. A bit steep for a college kid who just wants to occasionally cruise with friends.

Wow have you shopped around? I'm just 23, college kid myself so I understand, but in my opinion full coverage is a must on a motorcycle. 800/yr is just like $60/month, I'd do it just for the peice of mind.

Yea, I looked around, but Progressive had the best price. I may upgrade to full coverage. The only reason I didn't is because my best friend and his brother can fix up almost anything that has a motor... So I figured if I have a little accident it shouldn't be too hard to fix. And if I'm stupid and totally wreck my bike.. Well then I guess I learned my lesson.
