Time I said hello (from Ireland)
Hi Folks!
I've a few posts up till now but no bike. Well all that's changed I just got back from bikeworld where I have put a deposit on a 2009 Ninja 250 R, oh and its green too I got them to deliver as I don't have my license yet, over here in Ireland there are a few more hoops to jump through before you can get a license (learning permit really, have to have that for at least 6 months before your even allowed to take a test), but I have a nice car park behind my apartment to practice in while the paperwork goes through. I already have my HJC IS-16 helmet, and a Dainese Jacket. I will pick up glove/trousers/boots Saturday. Might order a back and chest protector on-line tonight. Speaking of helmets I ordered it from the UK, seems the UK government does not charge VAT on helmets, how about that a clever law! First ever bike, I'm 28, and have drove Manual Cars since I was 19, always looked out for bikers. Now I have a day or two to pick some accessories. I'm thinking cover (it rains a lot here), lock and chain, seat cowl and green rim tape. Glad I found this site its been a great resource. I will be stuck with a 250 for at least 2.5 years (6 months till you can do the test, if you pass you still are restricted to that 33 BHP for 2 years). So I hope to contribute my fair share over that time. Oh I notice some differences with the Euro bike. In Ireland only 2 color choices, green or black. No fuel gauge its a temperature gauge and fuel light. It has a 250 decal on the rear part of the bike, of course the one you all knew about its fuel injected. Can't wait till Wednesday |

Its a monopoly only kawasaki are exploiting. Thanks Alex, you've done a great job with this place, I've administered and moderated at some very large forums (100,000 members) and none of them ran anything like as smooth as this place, its a breath of fresh air around here. |

Welcome Karl - glad to have you with us. It sounds like you really have to want to ride a motorcycle over there with all the restrictions and hoops to jump through. Wonder how that would play here in the US - ah never mind.

You make it sound like a bad thing - I realize you don't have much choice in what to get, but really, in our market here at least, there isn't much of anything that I'd rather have anyway

from what I've read, the new gsxr's have three power settings, for full power, med power, and low power which is 33 hp...I'm not sure I have the 07 model but i've heard the 08-09 have this feature...

Hello and welcome from Bristol, UK...
I guess the rules are different in Eire from the uk to allow you to ride a 250 on the road before test? I took my test here on my GS125 which gave me 33bhp restriction for 2 years but even if I had had the Ninja at the time i wouldn't have been able to take the unrestricted test on it as bhp is too low.... Enjoy your bike when you get it

Hi, and welcome, the UK government do not charge VAT on safety equipment i.e. helmets you might like to have a look at this site
http://www.getgeared.co.uk/ I have bought a few things from them with excellent service. Steve

Welcome from England.
I did my DAS back in 2001, are they changing the law in the UK now, so even after completing mod2 you are restricted to 33bhp?

Our test is the 90% the same as the car test except you get a radio and the tester follows you in a car, its pretty lame. |

That's quite poor, I thought there would be a more structured test.
Anyway, enjoy the Ninja I spend all day wondering when my next ride will be.
