crashed my 2fiddy

So I am on this on ramp on a pretty busy highway, Everyone is going pretty slow and merging into the right lane. Well i speed up a tad then i brake again when people in front of me brake, to 25 mph indicated. I look over my right shoulder to check my blind spot, its clear and i turn my turn signal on and i swivel my head back to the front and the cagers in front of me have basically stopped. I squeeze that front brake instantly, lock it up and get a taste of some pavement. all the traffic stops and people get out to help me, the Wabulances get called by some nice cagers and one helps me pick up my bike. A fellow motorcyclist pulls over to wheel my bike to the other shoulder where there is some construction so one lane is closed and there is a big shoulder.

I ended up with a dislocated shoulder, a very scraped knee, and a scrap on my lower right stomach. Pretty good IMO for sliding face first into the road.

Im definitely going to get at the least some good knee pads. My boots have huge scuffs on them and am very thankful i was wearing all my other gear.

There is more video of when the ambulances and cops and what not come and put me in a stretcher(i turned it off once i got inside the ambulance) so that i may enjoy the next 6 hours in a hospital and having the doctor say that its not dislocated after the x rays, and then after the cat scan tell me it is dislocated. Everyone was really interested in seeing the video lol. And one of the cops also rides a bike and said from what i described to him on what happened, that i did everything right. Will post the video once its done uploading to youtube.

Link to original page on YouTube.

Good to hear you were wearing your gear and you're not too busted up. How did your bike come out of the accident?

OMG Michael! That's so scary. I'm glad that otherwise, overall you are okay. I know exactly where you were at when that happened and considering that, you were really lucky. I think they just changed the lanes there, too, didn't they? So that the left no longer merges and stays as its own lane. I just noticed that the other day when I went that way. I think it throws the drivers off because it's a pretty new change.

Yea could have been a lot worse, but apparently there was an accident in the same lane further up and that's why the poeple in front of me slowed down so much to change lanes. And that lane is actually open and doesn't merge into the other lane like it did pre construction. Gonna get an estimate from an agent, they might call it a total loss, and if they do I'm probably gonna get an fz6r

Not like it was their fault, but the driver of the SUV is like so many other drivers out there...It sucks when people can't execute common everyday manuevers like 'merging'.

Stopping suddenly while in a right-of-way is dangerous. The SUV had a window to merge and.... well, he/she just isn't a very good driver i guess.

Damn dude, that sucks! Glad you're okay, the bike can be fixed and taken care of, that's all secondary. So question, where do you have your helmet cam mounted at?? That's a pretty cool view!

His camera is mounted on the tank.

Michael, were your handle bars turned when you hit the break? It looks kinda like it was. Greg and I joined the gym by your work so you might see us or our bikes on occasion !

That sucked bro but glad you came out of it with minor injuries (look at me saying a dislocated shoulder is "minor"). Get well and get to riding.
It would appear that the bars weren't straight when you braked (perhaps you were thinking about passing the SUV)...I'd practice emergency brakes if I were you, the P word makes perfect

Yea when you see my blinker light come on thats when i was looking at my blind spot, and before i even turned around i had already leaned a little to change lands. It seems farther away in the video but i was literatly like 5 feet away from the suv when i hit the brakes.

Notice my right boot, hella scuffed. had i been wearing tennis shoes it would have just ripped those apart. Wear your gear even in 100 degree weather. I know im getting me some good knee pads to put under my jeans

That's something I noticed with the GoPro-things look further away than they truly are...like the video Greg took of me the first time we tried the camera, www.youtube.com/xxJunebugJo I look like I'm miles ahead of him.

I need to get riding boots but I haven't yet. I haven't seen a style I like and that would be comfortable. I want to be safe but I want comfort, too.

I bought the Shift Racing Women's Curve Street Shoes. They're $49.00 at Motorcycle Superstore. Originally $120. I really like them.

i ended up changing the rearsets to woodcrafts, the rear brake seems to be harder to lock up than the original.

i guess your right, it looked like he locked them both both at first glance.

is stiff arming the bar the same as tucking it?

Ill just chill and go at a normal pace when there is heavy traffic. I usually ride a little aggressively, like 5 to 10 mph over what everyone else is doing. Need to focus on what's in front of me and not changing lanes when I don't need to.

And I didn't use the rear brake. The instant I touched the front it locked
