How to check if bike has been dropped?
I am currently searching for a 250 and I saw a 2008 green ninja at a decent price. When I went to check the bike, I noticed that the left fairing is missing 2 screws and the fairing is a little misaligned to the holes. The owner said that some random students at his college stole them off his bike as a prank.
How can I check if the bike was dropped and the fairing was replaced? The left indicator light looks fine but I am not sure if that was replaced also. He also has adjustable levers so his levers look new. |

Look for damage on the bar ends and foot pegs.

fairings come off quite often for maintenance, ppl lose the screws all the time.
look at: engine case on sides for scratches / off color paint covering scratches. bent handles bars/clip ons. check alignment of tire and bars. cracked oil sight glass. most replacement fairings won't have the foam pieces on inside. scratch marks on mirrors. can't think of much else at moment. |

If dropped on the right side check for heavy scratches on:
Mirror Handle Bar Ends (Weights) Bent or scratched brake lever scratches on tip of the indicator light - broken damaged stalks Scratches on the exhaust can Obvious Scratches on fairings etc. On the left side: Mirror Handle Bar Ends (Weights) Bent or scratched clutch lever scratches on tip of the indicator light - broken damaged stalks Scratches on the rear seat fairing left tip (Ask me how i know this ) |

If it's your first bike, or not I suppose, then I wouldn't worry too much on a dropped bike if it's only cosmetic.

Additions...
Tweaked rear frame or sub-frame (sometimes easy to tell visually). Scratches on swingarm and/or axle bolts.

Vibrations from the road have also been known to cause screws to back out. It's unlikely but possible.
