possible sticky throttle?
I am new owner of a used 09 250r w/4800 miles about. This is my first bike, so I don't know too much about bikes yet. My BRC classes are in 2 weeks, and I haven't even hopped on my bike yet. My friend who has 3 years riding experience and he used to own a 08 250r, took my bike for a test run around the block. After the ride he said the throttle response doesn't feel right.
We had the engine idling and it was staying steady at 2k rpm, it should be 1300 rpm. He turned the throttle all the way closed and the throttle dropped to 1300. He revved the engine up to 4k RPM, and as soon as he let go of the throttle the engine made a sound as if it was holding the throttle open slightly. The needle hovered for maybe 1-2 sec at 3K RPM then fell back to 2K RPM. It wouldn't return to 1300 RPM unless he applied force to the throttle. So my questions are: 1. Does the throttle always return to ~1300 RPM at a stop? 2. How quickly does the throttle normally take to return to normal idle speed? I checked my play in the throttle via the OM and I think it's in compliance with what's written. The idle rpm does not change when turning left to right. And my grip seems to snap back pretty good in my opinion even with quick flicks of the wrist. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. Last futzed with by gt_turbo; April 6th, 2011 at 11:22 PM. |

Do you have aftermarket grips on it? On my bike the ends of the grips contacted the bar ends and created resistance, I just had to take a razor blade and shave off a mm or so of rubber grip and my problem was solved.

2. it should drop back down to idle within a second or so of letting go of the throttle, if not immediately. if it slowly returns to idle, you have a problem somewhere. |

they appear to be standard grips. i really don't notice any kind of binding or slow closing of the grips. i will try to clean and lube the cables when my ebay levers come in and see if that helps any.

ditto
my throttle started to stick after i dropped my baby looking for a solution now!
edit: Followed Purspeeds DIY to decrease throttle rotation for full throttle to disassemble my throttle, put it back together and no worries, snaps back to original position, easy as pi http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=26270 Last futzed with by jaaked; April 12th, 2012 at 05:46 AM.
