Buying back totaled bike?

Is it possible to make money buying back your bike after it's totaled? For example, my 2012 was totaled and all the plastics are ruined but what about the engine with 3k miles on it? And the frame, controls, etc.. I'm not sure about the price to buy it back, but has anyone done this with success?

It really all depends on how much your ins. is willing to let you keep it for, whether there are enough good parts to make a profit, and whether or not you have the time/know-how to part it out and sell. I was in the same situation and decided to the let them keep the bike.

Yes you can profit but only if;

buyback price + cost of repairs (+- selling season difference) - random $$ off your listing price > actual salvage title selling price (normally lower than clean titled bikes)
