Picked up a 98 today with just under 6k miles. Overall in pretty decent shape. It's been driven for the past couple of years. According to the PO, he got it with 1700 miles on it. A little bit of damage to the lower fairing as seen in the pic. Needs a good cleaning. I'm new to riding. Taking the MSF course in July. In the meantime I'll get it all cleaned up and do some maintenance. Can anyone tell me if the different color rims are stock or was one replaced? Also, options for fixing/replacing that lower fairing.

I passed the msf course this past Sunday. The class was a lot of fun, even though it was blazing hot, and the knowledge gained was invaluable. I've got a full face helmet and a textile padded jacket. Now all I need is a pair of boots and riding pants and I'll be ready for my first ride. Heading out to dmv today for my endorsement.

I've got gloves. Although I'm not sure if they're adequate. They don't come up over the wrist. They have leather or leather like material on the palm side and rubber over the knuckles and a couple other key spots. I did notice while taking the course that the seams on the inside of the fingers became annoying after a while. We didn't talk much about gloves and boots in the rider course. The only thing we were told to stay away from were half helmets. I'm certain I will be getting a new pair at some point but if they are not adequate it would be sooner rather than later.

I'd look into more substantial gloves. They aren't terribly expensive, and you want ones that are both comfortable as well as likely to stay on and protect your hands if you do find yourself pavement surfing unintentionally. Hand injuries suck, and decent gloves can help.
