RPM-Speed ratio; Update.

Anyone remember the thread about rpm-speed ratio?
What's yours?

If I'm going 80km in 6th gear I'm at about 6rpms
When I hit 140km I'm at 12rpm!

All stock except for exhaust, which won't effect the rpms I do believe.

there's this fancy search function in the top right... also if you look at the bottom of this thread you see "similar threads"... not exactly sure what your question/point is... are you trying to figure out how far off your speedometer is?

is this what you're looking for? http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=68688

they really are. on my fizzer, i replaced(well, am in the process of replacing) the gauge cluster with my last cell phone (an android G1). im making some custom frontend software for it so it doesn't have all the bloated junk i don't want and instead goes straight to gps map with speedo. if you just want to do it one time you might want to consider using yoru phone with some zipties

Yeah, except I have a keybo =p The cliche phone.
Only problem is I don't travel much =[ So I would only use it for like the speed/distance features.
I was looking into making a custom built one, but it would be very time consuming having to program each chip and such.

when i first got the 250 i got really into modding it and making electronics and crap for it... after a while i realized what it was for... riding everything else is just a distraction. like i said i'm in the process of converting the G1, so for the last month the fizzer has had no gauges but the tach... and it didn't even have that for a while.

now i only do work that is actually needed on the bikes... and even then, sometimes i dont do it! hah. i feel so guzzi.

Question

I shimmed my carb needles with two washers, have a skip on exhaust and live at sea level, could the shimming be the cause of my don't be so high? at 70 I am at 10000 rpm. Is this normal?

The only thing that effects speed is gearing. Unless you messed with Your sprockets nothin else you do will change..... Well there is the CDI issue when running hot weather where your Rpms may read higher. YMMV.

sprockets look good, prob going to take it to dealer since still under warranty. Do you think I should take out the shims before taking for them to inspect? Just don't want them to find the shims and try and blame it on that, voiding out warranty

LNasty Only remove the shims if you feel it necessary. But there is absolutely no way in h*ll that they can "prove" that adjusting the fuel mix causes rpm variation issues, so I really doubt that will be an issue with your warranty.

Like said before, the gearing ratios are in charge of how fast the engine is turning at any given speed. Think about this; is there any way that changing the fuel mix can cause your gear ratios to change or cause your clutch to slip or cause your CDI to give a false readout etc? No.

Ok. I don't think they will pull carb covers off for diagnosis of this problem, should be ok

It's just math once you know your RPMs at any given speed just calculate the ratio and use it for any speed.

80mph/8,500rpm=.0094(this is my ratio)
70mph / .0094=7,437rpm
125mph / .0094= 13,281rpm
