Is the newgen suspension worth it?
I have a bunch of newgen parts (brakes, wheels, sprockets, etc.) and I was wondering if it was worth the trouble to get a slightly larger wheel size. The only thing I'd need to order is the newgen swingarm to complete it. Maybe even the dogbones.
Is it really worth the effort? Honestly, I'm satisfied with the current configuration. I've installed the newgen shock/spring though. It feels a bit stiffer off the stand. Are the newgen brakes better besides it just being newer?

Mods with no purpose? Sure, if that makes you happy. Although if you're happy with your current setup, no need to rush. Winter project maybe? Many riders swap the wheels for the improved tire choices. The 250 (pregen, newgen or late models) stock suspensions all pretty much suck for any kind of real satisfying performance riding, but can be just fine for street riding. So the serious riders update the stock forks with aftermarket internals and the rear is totally replaced. (I am talking mostly track riders and racers)
If you want better suspension, just respring your front and figure out what you want to do rear shock wise. There is no shortage of debate threads on that one here. lol Get the larger wheels for the TIRES!

Thanks @csmith12
Sport Demons or Bridgestones are in the future. This is mostly for daily city driver and weekend twisties. Bigger tires do sound enticing, but I wonder if its worth the trouble just for my type of riding.

In my opinion it's not worth the cost for street riding. The suspension is no better on the new gen.
For track riding, I think it's worth the trouble to get the 17" wheels and the awesome race tires available for that. My trackbike was a pregen for last 2 years. 2 of my friends have the new gen for track and they have the pirelli supercorsa race front tire. I immediately had a lot more confidence in the front tire than on my bike and matched the best lap time on my bike within one session in my buddies bike. |

Brakes are okay on the PreGen if you take care of them. I recommend that every time you change your pads, you service the calipers, he's my write-up to help you out. It should fix your initial problem, and keep your calipers in top working order.

I also recommend flush and fill with new brake fluid, also I'd go with 5.1DOT This is the one I use https://m.motul.com/ca/en-us/product...-1-brake-fluid Also inspect the brake lines, replace is needed, http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Stainle..._lines_upgrade Quote:
On my 91 EX500 I have Spiegler, in orange to match that bike. Quote:
When it comes to safety items like brakes, when in doubt, throw them out, it's your safety in your hands, and is cheaper than a visit to the ER. Buy quality pads,I personally recommend EBC brand either the HH, or the Extreme HH. EBC full floating rotor, replace the OEM rubber line with a stainless steel braided brake line, cheaper than replacing them with OEM. On my 500 I have Spiegler line http://www.spieglerusa.com/brakes/cy...line-kits.html On my Ninja 250 i went with Venhill http://www.venhillusa.com/products.html With all that, it will stop on a dime, and leave you nine cents in change. look here http://ebcbrakes.com/products/motorcycle/ And also read this, http://www.ex-500.com/wiki/index.php...otors_and_Pads That should answer any questions you might have.

I'm going with the newgen front end. The calipers got EBC's in them.
I will change to DOT 5 when changing the lines out. Thanks for the details.

NP, just be sure it's 5.1 DOT, NOT 5. Follow my write-up and your brakes will be just fine, just like other services one performs on the bike, the brakes are one of those things most neglected, especially the calipers. It's easy enough to do, and not time consuming.
