Q: How would u install Preload adjuster without front stand?
Guys,
I am trying to install the SSR front preload adjuster but don't have the front stand that lifts with the pin. Need to relieve the weight off of the front and only thing that I can see myself doing is close to this. Really don't feel like taking my fairings off besides don't have the jack; I have an SUV and it comes with bottle jack that is too tall to do the same. Anyone near Philly with front stand? TIA |

Use a 8ft step ladder and hang the front from the ladder.

Good idea! I gotta find me a ladder or low ceiling beam of some sort. Thanks much!
I have ratcheting straps. Anyone with ladder in Philly? |

Not my idea, I saw it on this site. Some very creative riders here.

Also, you can lift the front by the engine with the jack that comes in the emergency kit in your car, and a block of wood to keep the metal lift jack from scratching the paint. That's what I do and it works well, as long as you're careful about not shaking it or anything while it's up. It's not the most stable setup ever.

I believe @csmith12 is referring to this:
This is on the back, but there are several holes on the front of the frame that you could run a ratchet strap through to hold the bike up. Tips: Use a wood/metal block on top of the ladder to keep it from bowing use a rear stand or jack stands on the rear to keep it stable |

Let me add one more method in relieving the front spring pressure from the fork.
There is will, there is a way. Used the bottle jack from my truck and used it between my wheel and the nose end of the frame and lifted to relieve the weight off of the spring. I had to remove the front fender to do it but better than hanging on the ladder or lifting from the bottom and having to worry about having to topple over to do THIS JOB. I did everything on the side stand on the bike; it makes the front taller so the bike leans more toward the side stand. There was no stability issue. |
