Dropped My Bike Last Weekend...

...from a stop.

So embarrassing.

The one time @Old Lemon rode with me and did NOT have his GoPro and he was behind me and witnessed the whole thing.

When: last Saturday. 9/29/12

Where: at this intersection. Sorry the pic is bad - stole it from Google Maps. But the car in the photo is the direction I had come from and as we came to the intersection we stopped. I was to the left of the white line (or, looking at the photo, I was to the right of the white line)

How: As soon I stopped, I felt an immediate pulling to the right and put my right foot down. My foot didn't touch. The slope of the road was enough for me to only tiptoe my boot onto the ground. I had that dreaded, "oh my god I'm going to drop my bike" as I tried to keep her upright. The weight of the bike, my foot not reaching the ground, I had no leverage at all. (There was no option of putting my right foot further out because that would cause the bike to lean to the right more, and I couldn't get my balance so I could lean or push left.) So, slowly, the bike started going to the right, and it pretty much got to the point where I couldn't hold it up any longer, I knew we were both going down and so I put my hands up to let it go.

Of course, running through my mind on this fall is that I didn't have the frame sliders I had won from @RaceBikeRentals so I was cussing about that in my head as we fell.

@Old Lemon was behind me when it happened. My husband was in front of me when it happened. He said he heard me calling his name but he thought I was getting ready to rear-end him so he kind of braced himself for that (cars were coming through the intersection that had a right of way so he couldn't pull forward any.) He said the next thing he saw was I was on the ground. LOL

They got my bike upright and it took about 5-10 min before I could start her up again. I'm so shocked the damage was minimal to my bike! I thought for sure she would be all tore up.
MINOR scratches

NO scratches at all

I had gear on except for my knee pads. I have a small dark bruise on my knee. My left hand was swollen that night but better the next day. My body, especially my right shoulder, was very sore and stiff the next day, too.

What did I learn: it sucks to be short; gravity makes things heavy.

Weren't you the one asking about lowering the bike and people said don't do it and then someone else said blah blah let people lower if they want or they will end up dropping it (question mark goes here I think)

Wish he had his gopro, I'd have added you to the video

If memory serves me correctly, she has it lowered 2'' already.

Bummer about the slip. Isn't it awesome that the damage was minimal? It happens, don't feel bad.

Yeah, too bad, I would have loved to have seen how graceful my slow motion fall was, too.

Yup, she was lowered before I even brought her home. My husband said that if I were to ever fall off, let this be the only time and the worst it ever is. LOL I'm SO GLAD the damage was minimal.

Glad to hear there was minimal damage to you and the bike... The first time I dropped my bike was similar, except I was backing off a slope and lost my balance... lol No damage except to my ego...

Received the email I won the sliders on on 9/27/2012. They informed me at that time the sliders were on back order with the company for 10 days.

I dropped my bike on 9/29/2012.

So - I don't even have them.

Decide on a bike yet?

(Btw, watch out. People looking to move up to a more powerful bike will be flamed.)

Sorry to read about your mishap.

What would you do to avoid the same from happening again?

Ryan that isn't true. People who make lame excuses such as "this bike isn't fast enough" are the ones that get flamed. If you just say you are going to a bigger bike because you want one then no one will flame you.

If you started working your legs out to the point that it looks like this it might lessen the chances of those type of drops in the future

No, I haven't decided. Waiting to sit on a 2013 636 first (have called around some local places, no one is expecting them until Nov-Feb)

haha I have watched and learned.

Well, let's see:
I lowered my bike 2", apparently that's not enough.
I have prayed by the side of my bed every night to grow longer legs, apparently it hasn't happened yet.

So now I'm researching lower seats for the ninja.

Normally when I ride, I NOTICE the slopes and lean towards the high side as I approach a stop so the weight of the bike doesn't go to the low side as it did in this case. As we came around the corner and to the stop sign, it did not appear there was much of a slope at all to me. It was not until I picked myself up off the ground and looked behind me, did I realize that the ground went downhill and to the right.

Had I not stopped directly behind my husband, I maybe would have had a little bit of room to maybe give the bike gas to pull it forward and give me a moment to readjust my weight, but at that time it happened so quickly I could not spit out the words: "I'm going to fall, hurry pull forward!" and instead what came out was, "G-G-G-Gre-Gre-GREG!"

Not so much. Simply put, the 250 didn't suit my wants. And, it wasn't fast enough. To assume someone 'sucks at riding' shows your arrogance and ignorance.

Except in this case he's right. You posted up this on August 3rd, less than 60 days ago:

Blatant lack of perception or judgement? Really? An inability to fairly understand my skill set.

Wow. It's pretty astounding that you can gather all of that based off of my decision to get a faster bike after being in a hit and run, and the fact that I don't think that the Ninja 250 is fast enough.

@GreenNinja Yeah, something like that. I guess.

So, can someone direct me to the link(s) in this forum or YouTube video(s) to explain to me where experience and knowledge makes the 250 go faster?

Like, how much faster?
2hp?
50hp?

I'm really not upset about my thread, to be honest. But just goes to prove my point that no one can say anything about the 250 in this forum without someone having something to say about it.

^^^ haha I just realized that made no sense at all. Oh well.

2hp?
50hp?
mods! full exhaust will get you like 3 - 5 hp. and you can remove some filters or something as well but idk how much you get from that. But better performance comes with lower mpg so pick your poison

I don't think that's the point, and I believe that we've bounced this around in several threads before. When a new rider buys the 250, drops it the first week, crashes it within a month or two, buys an R6 because he thinks he wasn't fast enough on the 250; *it's not the bike's fault*. If they then stay on the 250 forum and continue to talk about how the 250 is slow, the response can be foreseen by most.

Adding to Alex's post:
saying the 250 is not fast enough is rather relevant.
That is like saying a marathon runner is slow in comparison to a sprinter.
Put the same sprinter on a marathon course, I will be willing to bet he will lose to a marathon runner. The 250 isn't fast in a straight line, but in the twisties ,with technique and experience the difference in HP becomes almost irrelevant. A good example would be why supersports are slower than hayabusas in a straight line but in the twisties I'm sure the hayabusa won't be able to catch up.

Fast is a very vague description. When someone says the 250 isnt "fast" enough I never know what they actually mean. Is it the acceleration? the top speed? through the twisties?

I got a speeding ticket on Monday. It was fast enough to almost get my license suspended. Is that not "fast" enough? To me atleast, thats almost too fast
