The geezer has arrived
It has been 35 years since I last rode a bike and 40 years since I raced (desert and motocross). Just picked up a used 2006 Ninja 250 at the recommendation of a friend who is a serious rider and a restorer of bikes. The goal is to get comfortable on a bike again before thinking about moving up to a touring bike. (A BMW R1100<something> is on the distant radar.)
So far I have spent the time putting the bike back to stock. The previous owner didn't know a lot about tuning small four-strokes and I am having to undo his work. Regardless, the bike seems to work well. More than enough for me for now. I will be using it to commute and do some wandering around the Sierra Nevada foothills near Sacramento. Currently trying to figure out how to carry stuff around with me without breaking the bank. Maybe we can ride together. Brian (PlaneGuy, The Geezer, Pinky) |

Thanks Alex. If it runs on internal combustion, I do it. Airplanes, cars (on and off the track), and now bikes (again). Looking forward to learning from the other members.
After 57 years I have learned that I no longer need to make all the mistakes all by myself. Brian (PlaneGuy, the Geezer, Pinky) |

Well Lou, my bike-building friend has challenged me to complete an IBA SS1K on my Ninjette. Wanna come?
http://www.ironbutt.com/about/default.cfm Here are the specifics on the SS1K: http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/ge...nt.cfm?DocID=1 At first I said, "Sure, no problem." Then I went riding yesterday for a couple of hours. Hmm, not too bad but clearly not able to do it for 24 hours. Definitely going to have to fashion a thermal memory foam saddle or do some serious exercises to strengthen the ol' gluteus maximus! Brian (PlaneGuy, The Geezer, Pinky) |

Thank you. Time to get a picture up so you can see that I too am basking in the glory of Ninjette coolness.
Is it true that it will help with me charm women? God knows I need all the help I can get! (Does anyone know the emoticon for sardonic humor? )

Wow, 140kmi? I would have thought the bike would have turned to dust by then.
I am really happy with the '06 Ninjette. I was originally planning on a circa-600cc standard or sport-touring bike but a good friend who collects old bikes and restores them really pushed me toward the Ninjette. I was not going spend over $2,000 on something I wasn't sure I was going to like so it had to be something I could get into cheaply and then get out of again without losing my money. A new bike was NOT in the cards. We must have covered 25 different makes and models of semi-vintage bikes that were in my price range. Regardless, he kept coming back to the Ninjette. I was skeptical at first but now after having put over 300mi on my bike in a week without any freeway riding (oh, plus a lot of wrenching to undo a lot of things the previous owner "fixed"), I have a real appreciation for this little wonder of a bike. If I stay interested there is probably a BMW R1100RS in my future, but for now, I plan to enjoy the Ninjette. Thanks for the welcome everyone!
