Whirring Noise

Not quite sure whether its only my chain or the transmission as well. In 6th gear at lower rpm's, my sex r makes a continuous noise that resembles a supercharger wanted to know if it's normal or if I should be concerned

Transmissions usually have mechanical whirs.

It's just much more readily apparent in 6th gear. I think it's because the rpm's don't get high enough at such a low speed, and the engine noise doesn't cover it up.

First, make sure it is not of the Dervish variety. If it is, open the oil filler cap and look inside for this:

Is it something new, or has it always made the noise?

Check your chain tension - it may be too tight. A tight chain can make a similar sound.

No idea. I think without the fairings noises are much more apparent. It does it in every gear now that I've been paying attention. The chain can't be too tight, because I adjusted it towards the looser side.

I am going to look on the positive side of things here. It sounds like you're getting in touch with your bike a lil more. I went through this same thing with my r6, stressing over every little sound until I vetted everything out. When everything is right, your bike is finely tuned instrument, and like most... they will have a sound representative of such precision.

Aside of that, there are sounds that spell trouble ahead of time, these normally have a distinct pattern and are repeatable under conditions. If you can repeat your sound, you will find your reason. Got a stand? Throw it up and run it. Do you hear it while not in motion?

And yes... without fairings, the unique sounds your bike makes will be louder.

I recall a similar supercharger type sound with another zx6r. If I got it on video would that be of any use

Most bikes have some tranny and clutch whines, you could be hearing it in 6th because you're at lower rpms or just something about that gear.

It happens in every gear. I can hear it much more with ear plugs (drowns out the exhaust).
