Airbox ducts to carbs
I was putting my bike back together today, and the rubber ducts that go from the aribox to the carbs would not go on. One of them was totally deformed. I noticed it when I took the bike apart. I think it happened the last time I put the carbs back on; I didn't quite get the duct around the carb and it remained squished awkwardly for probably weeks if not months.
Anyway, I ordered new ducts, but I don't know how long it will take to get them in. Can I still run the bike even if the ducts aren't perfectly seated against the carbs? |

I wouldn't do it just because you run a risk of getting dirt into your motor.

instead of buying new ones, you could have soaked the old ones in some hot water for a few minutes. Woulda fixed em right up. And no, do not run it without them - you are getting unfiltered air in the engine and running super lean.

Thanks for the tip. I will do that anyway and save them in case I ever need a spare.

Are you sure this will work for the air ducts? I ask because my order from Ron Ayers has not shipped, and I have a race a week from tomorrow. I don't even know if the bottom end of this motor is any good and I'm running out of time. |

Sho'nuff, it did the job. Pulled both ducts and both boots and gave 'em a hot bath. The air ducts look brand new, perfectly round and unmolested. Wife was not happy about the smell, and boy did (does) it smell.
Will fit them tomorrow. Maybe I can cancel my order before it ships. Jinx, I apologize for doubting. |

I'll revive this thread with a question! Are their any tricks or tips for getting the Air ducts from the carbs to the air box on without cutting my hands to shreds? I managed it in the end but man what a nightmare! Also the tightening springs area bugger to get on too.

Here, take this for when you need it. You can thank me later... because I ordered 10 of em.
