Would you be offended

If a person said, "Happy Hanukkah" to you even if you aren't Jewish?

I think I would say, "and a Merry Christmas to you"...

if the person was being honest and greeting me with the warmth of their faith, they would be equally accepting of my return greeting with the warmth of my faith...

and if they were being a PITA, my response would be just as PITA'ly received.

Ramadan Mubarak, and a Happy Hanukkah to you

My faith is in humanity so I am not offended by any faith as long as you do not try to shove it down my throat. I am happy to acknowledge all the many fairy tales out there.

Merry Christmas @Rifleman

I have Jewish, and Muslim friends, we greet each other with our own respective faith greetings and respect each others faiths.

I've had people I did not know well that I said Merry Christmas to and they responded with something like "Well it's really Happy Hanukkah for me" and I have responded with "well then have a Happy Hanukkah"

It's difficult to do, but I try to figure out what MY issue is if I ever feel offended. Why am I offended? What about what that person said to me made me feel angry?

I am getting better at it as I age ungracefully.

Depends, random person in the store or on the street? No, I just reply back with a Happy Holidays (since it covers not only the numerous winter solistice holidays but the ones before and after like Thanskgiving and New Year).

Person I know to be an ass and takes every opportunity to throw about a condesending "greeting" in an attempt to feel superior about their particular faith and challenging anyone to question it? They usually get a Happy Festivus or Happy (whatever day said holiday lands on).

Do I get miffed when Christmas music/decorations/clothing/advertising starts the SECOND Halloween is over. YES!

I feel kind of weird about it sometimes. There are a lot of commercials and news stories saying that I should dislike people of a certain religion or race.

It's quite confusing because I'm being told that certain races are supposed to treat me a certain way and certain religious groups are out to get me.

What I really find happens is that when I hang out with my friends of different races and religions we all get along and enjoy each other's company.

No. I am not offended when someone genuinely wishes me glad tidings from their culture.

No, I wouldn't get offended. Whether or not I celebrate the holiday/event/observance in question has absolutely nothing to do with the greeting, in my opinion.

Not only am I not offended, I think it's wonderful! Especially if they respond in kind if I wish them a different religion's holiday back!

Although I understand Happy Holidays, I do not like it as it seems so commercialized to me.

HOWEVER, will I act any different if somebody wishes me Happy Holidays? Absolutely not, it's the sentiment that counts, and at the end of it, almost all humans are the same, and can usually appreciate the well wishes offered to them.

If they don't, I laugh and I have said "Well then, I guess go to hell" with a sarcastic tone. That seems to always remind people what it's about. Old grumpy guys in particular.

Not so thin skinned here. I respond as I have been taught. I look at the calendar, if it says Christmas, then I am saying Merry Christmas. Same with any other holiday. Don't give 2 sh*ts about who it offends. On the rare chance that I do offend someone, I make sure to crop dust them too for good measure.

When a simpleton abused him, Lord Buddha listened to him in silence, but when the man had finished, the Buddha asked him, "Son, if a man declined to accept a present offered to him, to whom would it belong?"

The man answered, "To him who offered it."

"My son," Buddha said, "I decline to accept your abuse. Keep it for yourself."

I wanted to see if people were able to accept a Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan greeting of the season with out becoming unhinged and upset.

it appears normal people are, only the political class and professional race/religion agitators are the ones who get their nickers in a twist.

FYI Ramadan was during the summer this year so I wouldn't really recommend using that during the holidays lol. It doesn't occur at the same time each year on the Gregorian calendar.

This is pretty much how I am. If someone is genuinely wishing me well and just happens to reference their specific holiday, then I accept it and wish them well in return. I tend to prefer saying "Happy Holidays" in general as it does cover the whole gamut, and I don't necessarily know your specific situation.

If they're specifically saying something that they know to be counter to my own personal beliefs, I'll turn it right back around on them. I wouldn't even really say I'd be offended by it (I'm not too easily offended), I just return whatever was dished out to me. I should probably be the bigger man about it Buddha-style, but I just assume they're following the Golden Rule and wish to receive back whatever they were giving to me.

According to http://www.vox.com/2015/11/10/970703...up-controversy, this whole thing is basically caused by one "social media celebrity" who likes to make popular things via polarizing religious topics. His rant about the Starbucks cups actually lies about some details of Starbucks to cash in on the whole "war on Christianity" craze. I don't think I've actually seen anyone who really cares about the Starbucks cup - everything I've seen about this is people saying how much they don't care and how stupid it is to get so worked up over it. Even Trump said he didn't care (after saying that maybe they should boycott Starbucks).
