Ben said it well.

Here's what I do (and this is pretty recent... I'd been sitting too close to the tank)

1) Slide back in the seat. Looks like you're already doing this. You should have at least a fist distance between crotch and tank.

2) Move your butt off to one side and lock your outside thigh, close to the knee, against the rear corner of of the tank.

3) Keep your inside leg against the tank. Squeeze with your knees and get your upper body down. That will help with the forces. As Ben noted, you'll be a bit twisted.

4) Before you tip-in, rotate your inside leg out away from the bike. Point your toe... heel up, and against the guard. That will help you get your knee farther out.

4) Relax your arms... this is an ongoing issue for me. I have to think about it. When I remember to keep that inside arm nice and relaxed, the corner is way smoother. My mental image is my inside elbow pointing at the ground instead of off to the side. If I'm doing this, it's relaxed.

Semantics are important here... people talk about the inside of your thigh against the tank, but that could be anywhere from knee joint to crotch. It's closer to your knee... that's why you're sliding back. It lets you get farther off the bike (try moving off while forward on the seat, and then after moving back... you'll find you can move off farther, easier, if you're positioned back).

Stompgrips REALLY help. If don't have any, get 'em.

I had more outright pace than him because he slowed up in a few key corners that caused us to fall behind but I wasn't skilled enough to hop off line and take advantage of that in those corners. Rick is a good rider, but he's no Paul (Paul is one of the fastest coaches with TPM)
i would suggest sandbagging in a C group day and focus on passing. limit yourself to just slightly faster than the person you're practicing with that way you get the experience of lining up the pass correctly without blowing the next few corners. then when you're doing it at race pace it's all natural

Ooooh I gotcha now! For whatever reason I was thinking you had to shift off and rotate your knee out at the same time (I saw other people doing it, but this is white class, sooooo). Can't wait to try it at the next trackday... a month from now

The wonderful thing about BP is that you don't need to be riding to practice it

you can work on it with your bike on a rearstand, though if you want to work on quick knee to knee transitions I recommend having someone hold onto the front of the bike

I don't think they'll let me sandbag down to novice but I'll give it a shot in intermediate

Butt-cam view is so helpful for realizing how much further you have to get off the bike

not sure your passing rules for local clubs but hopefully either C or B group allows both side passing. explaining that you'll be safe and go slow and are going to be practicing safe passes and they'll let you sandbag in C all day. just dont start riding like you're in a race.

passing rules with the clubs that I ride with regularly
advanced - pass whenever and however you want, don't be a jerk
intermediate/novice - no passing on the inside before the apex, pass on either side down the straights

it's a shame because inside passing on the brakes is what I need to work on the most, at least I get to pass on the inside post apex so working on late apex cornering to pass on the inside at the exit may work well

Yes! Carry the speed, out steer them and beat them back to the throttle for a faster drive out underneath.

Most people know the truck! Well, mostly because there's a certain someone always standing on it taking photos.

Funny you post that one. I did leave the oil cap off in Feb. while riding at JenningsGP. It filled my boot with oil instead of dropping it all over the track.

I find my self dragging toe and from the pics it looks like I need to bring my toes up more on the pegs. Anyone else have this issue?

Looking good!

I drag the hell out of my toes too...then again I drag the pegs too (not as much) so I've adjusted to it.

you could definitely benefit from raising your foot and moving your knee a bit farther out at the same time (happens naturally when you raise your foot) once your knee hits the floor you start getting a lot more feel for your lean and it gives you a lot more confidence to go marginally lower each time. Then you see the price tag on new pucks hahahahaha

I have knee issues from sports when I was younger (running and soccer took its toll lol) and I have trouble getting my knees to tolerate a position that keeps my toes off the deck, especially my right knee which is much worse than my left. I need to find/invest in some boots that will take the beating (my SMX+ and Cortech pair do not do as well as I would like) while I work my flexibility and mobility again lol.

Only thing I've seen that works for that is diligently replacing titanium toe sliders

makes knee pucks look cheap but you prevent grinding down the boot to nothing like one of the guys I race against did, he could stick his little toe out of the boot and never realized until after

Uh yea you did. I got a nice slap on the wrist for sneaking in after the first session. Long story short I was going to buy a ninjette race bike that morning, decided that the bike wasn't going to work out and I was up at 4:50am yesterday morning putting my Daytona together after racing dirt track Saturday and getting back at 11pm. I'm flipping tired.

I'm flipping tired.
I was playing Rock Band (and a little Project Cars) at a lanfest till about the same time Sat. Freebird is too long. I hadn't shifted my sleep time earlier so I was screwed anyway.

Don't have many more pictures of it, just stuff like in the paddock on stands and warmers.

I know there where at least two other R3's racing last weekend besides me. Lynn Stackable with blue hotbodies bodywork and Jim Whitten #3 with primered bodywork way at the front of the pack.
