Oh Tree

What Happened
Last Saturday, October 13, I went out for a ride around 12 pm. Stopped at the gas station, filled up, and 5 miles later crashed into a tree.

It was a road I was familiar with. I entered a right corner and everything was fine. My feeler on the right foot peg scraped the ground and startled / scared me so I stood the bike up to slow down.. I target fixated on the tree and froze up, I don't even think that I slowed down, the tires never locked up at least. It happened so fast, in an instant I was flying from my bike.

I think my speed was around 35 - 40 MPH into the corner.

What I learned
Too fast for my skill level. I realize I could have just kept going with it scraping, or I should have braked harder. Also if I was hanging off of the bike a little the feeler may not have scraped. I suppose if I wish to push my skill level that the track should be the only place to do so.

I am very lucky and thankful to have walked away from this with minor scrapes and a sprained ankle. My gear was, jacket, helmet, gloves, (jeans and work boots not real gear).

I did not hit the tree straight on, which I believe saved me from further injury. Here are some pictures. You can see where the bark is ripped off of the tree.

My bike was fully insured and towed home after waiting there for 3 hours. The insurance adjuster stopped by last night and handed me a check for the bike, my helmet, and my jacket. The tow truck hauled it away today sad sight to see, but at the same time I realized how thankful I am for being able to walk away.

Thanks for reading.

Sorry to see this! And sorry you had to say goodbye to that bike. But certainly glad that you escaped with little to no injuries; it's a fantastic outcome compared to all of the possibilities.

Did the insurance company give you the option to buy the bike back? Could flip some stuff for a few bucks.

No, they didn't inform me of an option to buy it back. I told them I wasn't trying to. I did consider it but wasn't too interested.

An, but if the little Pre gen wasn't damaged too bad, would make an excellent track bike without worry of wrecking your street ride.

Anyway, yeah, those feelers startle the heck out of ya when you aren't expecting them to grind like that. First few times I scraped sent a jolt through me. Then I learned to ignore it and take it for what it was, my body position SUCKED!

Glad the tree didn't win against you and you are alright. The 2nd gen bikes a wicked fun. :-)

I have Progressive.

$1,200 for the bike, $300 in accessories and $300 for gear - (roughly rounded)

I ended up with a check for $1,300 after my deductible.

Cool, that's who I have and we live in the same state.

Did they request receipts for the gear? Did they credit anything with a scratch or did it really have to be trashed for them to accept it. Always been curious how that worked.

Glad you are OK . Any crash you can walk away from is a good learning experience. The new 300 has more of everything. Much better at avoiding trees.

Any gear that had a scratch on it. My adjuster even left the old gear with me, I was told it would be taken and thrown out. She just looked up the gear and bike accessories online in her Progressivemobile.

Glad you are OK. Money is a far second to your health, and you got your money from insurance anyway. Sounds like a great opportunity to upgrade to a 300.

By the way, who's green Ninja bike is that in the last photo?

Thanks guys, and I was not worried about the money, more than thankful to have walked away from it. The bike was fully covered by insurance and my gear.

The other bike is my brothers 2011 ZX6R.
