At lunch today I rode without gear
just bare hands, tennis shoes, jeans and shirt, no helmet, gloves, not even my glasses. I rode across the parking lot at work to park in the shade.
And it felt all kinds of wrong... At least my ass won't get cooked when I leave work this afternoon. |

It does kinda feel like you riding naked, I cant even begin to think what it feels like being actually naked and riding.

Didnt mean to be a thread hijacker. At this point i even feel weird riding into the garage from my driveway without gloves. My HD buddy said I should get some fingerless gloves for the summer and I can borrow his open face helmet as he can't ride with it. I just say maybe, and gear up.

why is it that cruiser riders don't get geared up? I've always wondered. Do they have less of a chance of going down or something? Or is it a style thing? i have never seen a cruiser rider in any type of gear except those ugly helmets and maaaaybe a leather jacket.

I think the stereotype is in favor of the cruisers. If a rider is on a sport bike with nothing but his helmet most people would say "look at that idiot". On the other hand, if a rider is on a cruiser with nothing but helmet I'm pretty sure the driver in the car doesn't even notice what gears the rider has on. |

EDIT: Ok, so the Hurt report doesn't mention sport bikes specifically, but the European version (MAIDS) does, and general perception is that cruisers are safer. Last futzed with by Hadyn; August 20th, 2010 at 12:33 PM. Reason: fact checkin' |

I feel naked just riding anywhere without a backpack on, much less my gear.

If I take a quick test ride on my street w/o helmet, my head feels too light. It isn't unpleasant, but different. But without exception I am GATT: Gloves All The Time. Seriously.

I ride my dirtbikes/quad frequently without gear. Dirt is soft, asphalt isn't. Admittedly, I only ride without it when I'm letting someone else use it who has none of their own.
