Unacceptable. The real truth, if i sold it, would be that the bike has a crappy current owner.

I went to the dealership to ask how to improve my gas mileage. They told there's a secret menu option that they can activate to put the bike in cylinder deactivation and hybrid mode when the ECU recognizes that you don't need to accelerate hard.

A nice troll.

B because its a bitter point (had an argument with a forum member) I'm still entirely certain that a ninja250 will not run on one cylinder. If anybody want to prove me wrong start your bike, film it running, pull a sparkplug boot, keep filming.

It most definitely WILL run on one cylinder if it's already warmed up.

If the engine is already at operating temp, it will even restart when you let it die. It's a bitch to start when cold though. I had the plug blow out of the head while riding one time. I had to run on one cylinder with an open hole in the head and limp home. It barely has the power to hold 20mph on a 5% hill.

It doesn't like to idle at all this way. Throttle is required at stop lights to keep it from dying and you have to keep it above 2000 just to keep it from dying.

Even that is amazing, but you took away the drag that the compression from the other cylinder would have. Sparkplug in and spark removed it will not run.

I had a coil start to go bad on SERENITY, l barley made it home, so not on one cylinder, maybe 1 1/2.

No power whatsoever, maybe during deceleration, but I don't know??

Will totally run on one cylinder. I had coil issues and one cylinder would randomly cut out for unknown periods of time. Drove over 25 miles on the freeway with only one cylinder active.....yes all at once.

First group ride last night and I did pretty well! Kept my place in the pack, mostly kept up, the traffic gods were kind, and even in the canyon sections, I had control and kept up pretty decent with the rider in front of me, who has five years of experience.

Not bad for a noob! It helped that this was a ride on my home territory, and there were a couple of riders new to group riding. Also, that I have had a mentor on both riding skills and pack riding. I've also been watching how the pack behaves, on days when I've been 2-up with my honey on group rides.

removed the steering damper. SUPER trick but impractical for the street.

Left the mount on for "just in case" I decide to make it to the track.

New rear tire (stock road winner irc but a 150/70/17... I got it for 25$ brand new)
Took her down to the car wash, adjusted chain slack, and then cleaned and lubed the chain.

High pressure washing is a bad idea.

Lol & good luck man! Being a RiderCoach is awesome but does have it's ups and downs, so be prepared.

Your gunna do just fine on the coach class part, it's pretty much a no brainer, just score well on the riding test. After that... before you open your mouth to say something to someone, put yourself in their shoes and realize not everyone is the same. And... finally, sometimes saying NOTHING is the proper thing to do.

Good luck and have fun, in KY there is somewhat a lack of "fun" instilled in RiderCoaches, so please do your part to up the fun factor. Crack a few jokes and tell stories, people love stories.

On a side note, about what I have done to #511

1. Cleaned and torqued all bolts, similar to what you would do for the 600mile service
2. Inspected tires, chain, coolant and braking systems a bit more closely
3. Ordered a new spare clipon (woodcraft)
4. Order a new spare rearset peg (woodcraft)
5. Taking stock of what bolts I will be missing soon. (I have given away so many spare bolts to track day riders since the start of the season, now I am running low myself)

Best wishes to ya'lls!

This is still a fairly new ride to me. The poor thing was only getting fuel on one side. So that is what I am doing today for the lil ninja. Cleaning and inspecting. New float needles after cleaning.

Took apart my bike to get the airbox out..... which was a pain in the ass... Then I jetted my carbs with 112.5 mains and 40 pilots. Tomorrow I will be putting everything back together.

Today I discovered that one of my carburetor float bowl screws decided to abandon ship. While riding.

"Why does everything smell like gas?"
*looks down*
"What's that puddle?"

I was able to limp home with one carb supplying gas to the engine and one carb supplying gas to the environment. My gas mileage was not particularly good.

Incidentally, does anyone know the dimensions of the carb float bowl screws offhand?

Thanks, I've been a trainer for various jobs I've had over many years, and I do bring a sense of humor to all my classes, mostly just to keep them awake and engaged LOL

I've been wanted to do this for a long time, and now I have the opportunity to do so, and give back to motorcycle community, I'm feeling a bit honored in a sense.

M4x16mm

Now might be a good time to PM @ducatiman for one of his carburetor kits, it comes with everything need to service both carburetors, plus all new stainless steel fasteners for the bowls and diagram covers. I believe the price is $32.

Unfortunately it's a specialty screw, not common, I suggest you PM @ducatiman as he might has some spares?

Today, I locked up the rear wheel while preventing an ex-parked car from merging into the side of me (parked on the side street). Since its the morning I will leave it go and give the driver a stern stare. However, he decided to go the same route as me the whole way to work. But, he doesn't work here he was just cutting through our parking lot, didn't stop at a single one of the 4 stop signs in our parking area. Makes me want to stop at his house, he pulled out from, and talk to them about knowing how to drive.

But he probably thinks he's a great driver! You were totally able to avoid him, so it's all fine, right?

Glad you were able to avoid his stupid and it would definitely be tempting to talk to him about his driving.

I'm chalking it up to practicing my emergency braking. Gotta work on the rear brake then, I'm so use to using the front, back and pulling the clutch. Plus I been meaning to change my brake fluid, have all the material just haven't done it yet.

Yeah, it never seems like the rear brake does much so I have to kind of make a point of using it. I know, logically, it helps, so I have to make sure that I don't get out of the habit of using it. And it's good that you practice your quick-stops.

They're supposed to arrive today. Im goint to have to pull a damper tube out of a fork to make sure it fits as the mfr only lists it for the ninja 300 and Im on a newgen 250. Im signed up for a track day this Sat but it doesnt have bumps and I dont really hit the brakes much on the track so my main evaluation will be on the street.

You avoided death once. Don't intentionally put yourself in the same situation just to make yourself feel better.

Wouldn't be about making myself feel better. That kind of driving has no place on the roads, regardless.

But, don't worry I'm not going to approach them about it, that's why I worded it as "makes me want to".

Weather here hasn't been nice, rain, rain, and more rain.

While I wait for the weather to be more cooperative I've had some ideas, here's some hints

Jayne knows what I'm talking about

I'm looking into a basket case 89 ZX600, we shall see if the seller is flexible on the price, so I'm awaiting the seller's response.

I told ya' it's a basket case

No worries, it's not high pressure, or hot water even, I just use the hose and bring my own detergents and brushes/cloths aswell

Far better than a garden hose , plus they have a filtered streak free rinse setting that is awesome takes no time to dry and no white mineral blotches from our hard water out here

Found out what my noise was- nuts rattling off their bolts. Husband noticed they were missing when we finished doing my oil change today. So now I know what nuts to get and put back on and torque to tightness.

Might want some blue (removable) threadlocker on them when you reassemble.

Was it the large bolt going through the rear engine mount? Seems like that one likes to come loose for some reason.
