Other stock mufflers work on 250?

I have seen a lot of member pictures of their bikes, with, what looks like stock mufflers from other bikes, one even looked like a 650 muffler.
Question is, is there a other stock muffler that works with the 250R from another Kawasaki or other manufacturer and do you need to shim?

I was just thinking that I wanted to change the look of my bike, but not invest a ton of money in a custom slip on. I like the looks of the new 300 muffler, and the 2012 650 muffler, but could it be done?

the biggest problem you'll have is finding a way to secure it to your bike. Exhaust pipe step downs and step ups are pretty common so you just need to find mufflers that have a tab you can easily secure if you don't want to weld/ modify it.

Welding and modifying is something I am accustomed to anyways, I weld for a living, and fabrication is one of the job requirements, so thats not an issue.
So, as to the original question, could say a 650 muffler be put on a 250? What would need to be done,to limit the amount of exhaust pressure?

The 2013 300 muffler bolts right on and looks a ton better. Just put mine on my son's 2012 250.

How was performance? and sound?

Any degradation in performance by doing a straight swap?

Got a pair of GSXR 1000 mufflers for our white pregen. I gotta sell the old 1977 GS500 so I can pay someone with welding skills to make it work though....

Too much work IMHO just for another "stock" muffler

In regards to straight pipe , I ran the bike without the muffler on and it sounded like crap.

Straight pipe is a no-no. It just sounds shallow and metallic. No rumbling, just ninja 250 powered didgeridoo. More like didgeridon't

If swapping from a stock 2012 pipe to the stock 300 pipe, does anything need to be done other than just bolt it on? I'm an engine idiot, so I don't know what terms to use to ask the question.

The 300 canister fits right on but i couldn't line up my brackets from canister to pegs. I'm waiting on some 300 passenger pegs now. that should fix my problem. it doea look MUCH better than stock.

Already shimmed the carb needles? Although it may not be required, shimming wouldn't hurt things one bit. It takes longer to go find and buy the washers than to do the mod. It's 100% reversible as well.

No, as far as I know, my bike is bone stock in the engine. I am clueless how that magic box works so have opted to leave it alone as she has enough power to do what I have been asking her to do.

But you don't think that will be required to go straight to a 300 canister? I know it just bolts on though I didn't know the bracket didn't line up.

Nope, I don't think it will be required. Just a "what feels good thing".

As said, you don't "have" to do it, but once you do, you'll likely be glad you did.

Chris is totally right about the effort required to shim the needles. You aren't opening anything more than 2 covers over the carbs, so it's not like you are swap in a taller 3rd gear.

:chuckles: to give ya an idea of how much of an engine idiot I am, carbs are the stuff ya get with food.

I've skimmed the DIYs before just to get an idea of what everyone else was talking about, but still too advanced reading for me. Maybe one day, down the road, when I feel like it, maybe...

I was mostly checking to see if I could get the 300 canister and not be required to adjust anything since its a stock pipe. I read on other exhausts more work is involved so didn't want to go through that.

I think you just need someone to walk you through it hands-on first. Don't think of it as scary engine-work, so much as "remove this bolt, remove this bolt, remove this cover... replace this cover, replace this bolt, replace this bolt".
