pre gen 250 stock at the track
I have done track days for 10 years on my gsxr 1000. Last year myself and a few others thought it would be fun to get off the liter bikes and go to ninja 250's. So thats what we did. We all picked up pregen ninjas.
We decided to keep it simple, cheap, and fun, no modifiying with excpetion of tires. After lurking around the site for awhile, and reading countless threads. I was curious to as if anyone has taken their stock pregen to the track. Its my assumption it will be absolute blast, and most likely grinding the exhuast and or foot pegs. Anyone have any experience with stock pregen at the track? Thanks |

Hey Travis, there are a few riders that have taken their stock sprung pregens to the track. The few riders that I have had direct, first hand experience with all ran at a Beginner/Novice pace. All was well and they left with a smile.
Maybe other riders here have ran faster paces on the stock bits? I ran Advanced paced on a stock new gen. I own a pregen as well and I wouldn't have much issue at advanced pace on it I wouldn't think but like you hearing it from a rider who has done it would be great.

isnt finding a 16" tire that can run "advanced" pace the limiting factor? if you're talking about doing trackdays versus racing, imho you're going to get bored pretty quick if the control riders dont boot you first for rubbing elbows with your track buds. if you're going to race, just kick in the extra cash and step up to a late model and then you can dice with the whole class not just your crew. when/if you get tired of that, you'll still get a decent buck back out of it. just my "too sense".
<--- check it, post 100!!! damn im like a veteran now. |

Nah, there's some decent tires for the pregen wheels. They won't be nearly as awesome as some of the newest models that fit standard 17" rims, but they'll be more than capable (especially in the hands of someone who knows what a bike feels like at track pace) for track use.

They are doing outstanding on the track. Of the ninjas in the group they all have different tires. 1 with sport demons, 1 with the Pirelli scooters, 1 with the mt 75, 1 with metzler lasertechs, and even 1 with a set of shinkos. they are all doing very well. Amazingly the shinkos are doing as well as they are. The turn in is a little quicker, coupled with it being a shorter sidewall, so there is a little less ground clearance.
I have the 110/90 up front which gives much better feeling than the shorter front, but that is all opinion. I got schooled by a rider that was running one of them with the 120/80 on the rear and stock size up front. Pirelli mt 75s I believe. |
