Arrow Respect for the smallest engines in the sport !!!

Once upon a time, I owned a three speed, two-stroke, 50 cc: 1957 MS 50 Puch.

Yes, I modified that little wonderful machine, built parts for it and raced it (video below not related), ................and learned to respect the 50 cc two-stroke engines !!!

Not bad for a single aluminum piston with a diameter about one inch and a half !!!

Nowadays, I just smile when some riders brag about the many c.c.'s of their machines.

Link to original page on YouTube.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_cc_G...orcycle_racing

"The 50 cc class was the ultra-lightweight class in Grand Prix motorcycle racing, and formed part of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) World Championships from 1962 until 1983; when the class was replaced by 80 cc.

The relative low cost and increasing availability of 50 cc motorcycles in the post-war period, spawned a number of club road racing events for this size of machine in the early 1950s. With the earliest events being held in Italy and in the UK.

The potential of this class for providing entertaining but affordable racing was soon recognized with several national championships and in 1961 the FIM introduced The Coupe d' Europe, a series of international events for 50 cc machines, each with a minimum duration and run to established Grand Prix rules and regulations.

The series attracted a variety of entries, but the dominating force were the work’s Kreidler team bikes. Based on a standard Kreidler Florett road bike, their single cylinder Kreidler Renn-Florett’s featured lightweight frames, a special cylinder head and barrel, twin 16 mm Bing carburetors feeding the engine through rotary valves and improved suspension and brakes.

By the end of the season, with the addition of rudimentary streamlining and the increase of carburetor size to 17 mm, the 9 hp (6.7 kW) four-speed two-stroke bikes could top over 85 mph."

I have nothing but contempt for these horrid little mopeds.

Everyone here starts with a 50cc due to age size limits, and nobody keeps them, because when you live somewhere with lots of hills you need more torque! Even the Ninja 250r strugles on the low end here, I would maybe get another 50cc scooter, but not geared.

1982 Honda MB5: 24-hour endurance race

http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/vi...-on-two-wheels

"1982 Honda MB5 ............ is given a shot at glory as it's transformed from barely functional into a fully functional endurance racer! ...........a team of racers rode the little Honda on the Willow Springs kart track for 24 hours straight as part of an M1GP "mini racing" event."

That is just awesome! The lack of engine braking on a 2-stroke is phenomenal! Man, I want one of these...

This is BUB fab. It's a 50 cc streamlined motorcycle that went 150 mph!
http://youtu.be/Df8XVdKbiLA

Turn up the volume. The engine sound is great. And the Music is my good friend Drew Gatewood.
I ride a 50 cc scooter as often as I can. It's an Aprillia Scarabeo 50 and it rocks.

There is only one 50cc to have. That's the Aprilia RS50. Nothing else even comes close. I worked as a service manager for an Aprilia Dealer for six years. These little buggers are sick. If I did not weigh 200 lb I would ride one all the time.

Hey now...that is nice, but I think the Derbi GPR may be faster...

Mine's a cheater (75cc) but I thought that the Derbi 50 (EBE050) made more power than the Aprilia. Newer Derbis are slower.

Out riding the other day the Derbi hit about 80, but it's not stock either.

I worked on them also. Not much mostly electrical gremlins. Definitely cool and there is nothing wrong with them. The RS 50 or 125 and the cult classic RS250 are real moto GP level race bikes. The Durbi might be easier to find. And the new Aprilia stuff is not that great.

Just razzin' ya.

Neither is very common around here. I've only seen 1 other Derbi for sale in the area. Newer Derbi stuff isn't that great either from what I've heard. Piaggio took them over and messed it up.

I'd like to find an Aprilia or Derbi 125. If I can find another Derbi GPR in need of repair I would swap in a 125cc 2-stroke (most likely a Yamaha, as Derbi used a Yamaha 125 at one point).

Piaggio bought Aprilia also. Now they suck also.

When Aprilia came out with the 125 four stroke. They made it a 6000 dollar track toy. The bike was not capable of 75 mph. I was on Facebook and asked. Why when Kawasaki came out with the new gen 250 and Honda made a 250 and moto GP switched from 125 two strokes to 250 four strokes? Why would Aprilia come out with a "race" bike that is to slow for the track or the street? Why not retool the RS 250 and put a four stroke 250 engine in it? We would not be able to keep them in the show room.

They blocked me on Facebook.
